VALUE FOR MONEYIt's a blackberry torch i have so dont think i would be able to sit it in a cradle thing if i needed to
The ipod touch wouldve been ideal but the gps cradle isnt picking up the signal
Really looking for a satnav or map idea as i dont think the phone is a viable option anymore ( unless i go and buy an iphone which i aint willing to do )
Cant remember how much driving you are doing, but I have driven all over the west coast and never used a sat nav and havent got lost.
I do use an old fashioned map, but they still work, but to be honest apart from dfriving in LA even the map isnt required very often.
There are usually quite detailed maps in the free books of Vegas itself0 -
Cant see Copilot anywhere as a free app in the apple app store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alk.copilot.mapviewerCoPilot GPS is now free as an app, so I have downloaded this, seems to be getting rave reviews and doesn't require internet connection whilst on the move.
My other back up is getting a prepaid T-Mobile sim card with a $2 a day or $3 dollar a day tariff and pop it into my unlocked android phone and use that. http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/pay-by-the-day-cell-phone-plans. The $3 plan gives you 200mb per day, I dont use my phone much but I do use it for sat nav purposes and my last bill showed that I used 40mb in the whole month (just to give you an idea).
re: the T-mobile thing, does anyone know the minimum top-up amount for these? I'm likely to only require data over a few days (so around $10's worth), so don't want to find out the minimum topup is $50 (or something!)
also, I assume you state the plan you want when you take-on the simcard?, otherwise how do t-mobile know whether you want to be on the $2 or the $3 plan for that particular day?0 -
grrrrr.
Why would it be free on Android, but charged on Ipod?illegitimi non carborundum0 -

maybe its just market exploitation (you can afford to buy an iphone so we're going to charge you to use the apps)0 -

VALUE FOR MONEYif you are doing a lot of driving and a phone app won't suit, then maybe it would be better to get a sat nav with US maps before you go so you can get it set up and loaded with your destinations before you go...then you could sell it on ebay afterwards.
we bought an SD card with US maps for our Garmin several years ago - was about £40 and was the best thing we ever did. While we used to travel around the greater Vegas area and beyond wih printed maps we do find this works better for us...especially as sometimes we may be out and about and realise we're probably not far from something else we wanted to do/see...with the sat nav we can find our way...with printed maps, which didn't include the diversion, it was a bit more tricky.
depending on how much time you have maybe keep an eye on ebay.
there's this one ending tomorrow.

copilot for iphone http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/copilot-gps-plan-explore-on/id504677517?mt=8 then click on view in itunes.
I dont have an iphone, so excuse me if it's wrong, you can only download one set of maps for the phone, so don't get the europe ones and then ask for the north american ones as you have to pay extra, just get the north american ones.0 -
Thanks. Im sure it didnt come up when i was browsing the apple store on my ipod. Just downloaded onto my PC, gonna synch it, and hopefully it will ask "which country".illegitimi non carborundum0
