Hey I'm a local and I'm very good at driving in the wet or dry!!! lol :rotfl:

But with regards to the weather it is generally very pleasant for visitors (freezing for the locals!). Evenings are can be chilly but the days are normally very nice. We do sit out in the evenings but with a heater blazing (I know I've become a wimp).

LOL. you know, our very first visit to Vegas was in October 2001. And one morning we were getting ready to go for breakfast in Sahara and we had the telly on listening to the weather, and the weather chappie came on and said in a really serious tone...
"Better get your sweaters out folks, because it will be a chilly 95 degrees this afternoon in the Valley"
Myself and DH were sat there melting in shorts and t-shirts with the air con on just staring at the telly stunned, then we just burst out laughing :rotfl:. It's one of those daft holiday memories that you carry with you.:rotfl:
BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

Thanks for your help, perhaps I will book it before......its for our honeymoon you see so dont mind paying the extra ££££. Just wanted to gage whether people think it is worth it?

    :)

Not sure if anyone has stayed in one but some may have seen it on the tour? For a special occasion like that, would certainly book the room you want rather than hoping for an upgrade. For us it still wouldn't be worth paying quite that much but I can understand why it would be for some...might be worth looking at some of the higher-end suites at places like Aria, Cosmo, Wynn/Encore, Venetian/Palazzo too for comparison, if you haven't already. I know some people think Bellagio = best hotel in Vegas...we didn't really feel that way but opinions vary dramatically on these sorts of things - everyone has their own opinion. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Ni offence meant at all Dee, but I have seen some really stupid driving over the years.
If the driving was on strip, I would have blamed tourists, but the worst was on Decatur north of Sahara which isn't usually a common hang out for newbies.

just booked the Hilton at LGW (the one connected to the south terminal) for the night before our October flight and were really surprised to see it seems a lot less expensive than we remember...still almost £80, but to be able to walk from the hotel to departures (and to use twilight check-in with Virgin the night before the flight) is sooo worth it to us...may be part of The Great Getaway offer, not sure...but that offer ends 23rd July I think - so anyone contemplating may want to have a look.

We haven't stayed there in several years, so maybe rates are a lot less than we remember but we were really surprised.

absolutely agree, i think at even full price, it's well worth doing... the park+fly set-up is perfect. the car park is only a stroll from the hotel too, so you don't have to hang around for shuttles.

i think this is one of those case where VFM comes into play rather than being a hardcore money-saver... you could probably get a cheaper hotel and discounted parking, but for the sake of what would be just a few extra quid, to have a simple, relaxing start to the holiday is priceless! park outside the hotel, check in, stick bags in the room, park the car, wander back to the hotel, twilight check in, have a drink! then the next morning, just breeze through security.

just had this email - i'd nearly forgotten!!!!
ATTENTION! The travel authorization submitted on August 8, 2010 via ESTA will expire within the next 30 days. It is not possible to extend or renew a current ESTA. You will need to apply for a new ESTA. Please reapply at https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov if travel to the United States is intended in the near future. If there are 30 or more days left on the old authorization you will receive a warning message during the application and be asked if you wish to proceed.

nice to know there is a warning system in place :)

Been over a week since we got back, so im sufficiently (i think...) over the holiday blues.

Not at work today, pretty unwell, so it seems like a good day to start my trip report.
Will post as soon as ive finished. I imagine i'll go off on one and make it mega detailed like last time!

I would get the esta in place before I book any flights or hotels , in case it is refused for some reason, my renewal was refused this year , and tried again a few days later ( which I had to pay for again) and it was granted no problem.

Could this be a con to get you to pay twice !!!!!

I have just renewed ours, and in the FAQ's it says that the ESTA only needs to be active for your arrival, so you would be OK anyway.

Having said that, I don't think I'd risk flying with one that expired while I was there.
