better flight departure / arrival times (in my opinion) than the LHR BA offering too :) - seem to compete a bit more with Virgin's Gatwick flight times

I'm in agreement with you there nvh.

The return arrival time suits me much better than the LHR flights, as I have to then catch a train back home, and the afternoon arrival time was too late.

Got a load of BA miles to burn, coupled with loads of 'comp' nights offered by Total Rewards, really tempted to do another trip around Nov time. :)

yup - I prefer the times also.

What i don't like is the 777. Usually fly business class either through upgrading with miles or a sale fare and club world on the 777 is nowhere near as good as on the upper deck of a 747 (imo).

I think I'd be tempted to take the outbound from Gatwick for an early arrival in LAS and then take the return to Heathrow so I can get the 747 for the overnight flight.

ok heres maybe a bit of a silly q ( i have been breathing this holiday for a wee while now lol) can i buy a good cannon camera in vegas? we had two great slr cameras one 35 mm and on digital slr , unfortunatley we were burgled and both cameras were stolen, we decided not to get them replaced incase they were stolen again

however if we are going to grand canyon and yosemite etc then i think we really should get a decent camera again ( the ones we have are ok but they aint slr's )

is there anywhere in vegas that sells cannon cameras?

There is a 'Best Buy' superstore on South Maryland Parkway that sells cameras - have been there a few times. have a look their website to see what they have.

good point.... even for us poor heathens that sit in the back, am I right in thinking this will be 3-3-3 config (from memory the Virgin bad-boys are 2-4-2) so for couples leaving from LGW, Virgin is perhaps somewhat preferable... as well as the twilight check-in (etc etc)

saying that the BA LHR's are 777's too aren't they? so maybe its just useful if you are fortunate enough to be able to play LHR & LGW against each other... and as LGW is probably one of the worst airports for us to get back from it probably doesn't really impact us :D (its a long drive back... we never mind on the way their as we usually stop nearby in a hotel the night before but the drive back can be hell'ish after a long flight!)

Yup - 3-3-3 at the back. 2-4-2 in WTP.

BA switched to 747s to LAS last June - they originally started with 777s. Who knows, with LAS doing so well, maybe it will get an A380 some time when BA get theirs.

The Virgin Gatwick flights are 747s (arent they, its a while since I have used them) so they would be 3-4-3

if it's still there, there's a Ritz Camera in the South outlet mall... but from memory, prices weren't vastly different from the UK.

one tip is to keep an eye on:
    http://camerapricebuster.co.uk/cat1.html
which updates the best camera prices daily

I love the idea of taking a DSLR around vegas, but have now decided that investing in a decent compact (I've a canon powershot s95) is the way forward as it's just so much more convenient than lugging a big thing around all day :)

I am with you I have a panasonic tz8 which has a 25mm wide angle lense and 12 x optical zoom..and about 100 x digital which I have always thought was not very good but I took a picture of the Plaza hotel sign from the balcony of the Cosmo with the digital zoom and everyone I have shown it to, cant believe I took it with a compact, bearing in mind it must be 4 miles away.

Going back to the OP post, I would buy a camera before I went

    A. to get used to it

    B. no possible warranty problems

    thanks for the help

If there isnt much difference in price i would be better buying one here , just thought it may be much cheaper over there ... I have apower shot a410 ( very old dinosaur that didnt get stolen) and an ixus 95 is ( i think ) which i tend to use when out walking /hiking / visiting cities. ( London, rome, krakow etc) but thought maybe i would be better with a slr for u.s.a this time
