i think it's perfectly clear and absolutely agree. The pure fact that certain bars in america have a drink called irish car bomb is thoroughly distasteful and offensive. Im sure they'd kick off big time if we had a 'bin laden bomber', or a '911 exploding tower' cocktail/shot.

st patricks day shouldnt mean anything to anyone apart from those who are irish or have irish descendents. howver it seems these days its just an excuse for people to go on the lash

I think it's fair to say that the majority of Americans wont even understand why the name of the drink would be offensive, because most will never have considered to what the name of the drink refers, and if they did consider, they probably don't know the history anyway...as an American, I feel I can make this generalisation...because as a general rule we are pretty rubbish about knowing much about what goes on outside our own country...sad, but true...not saying it's OK, it's not...but most won't even realise the history behind the name...it's just a drink to them.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Westhamdaz I just don't think it's entirely appropriate to tar the 2 with the same brush. Not all Irish people (north or south) are happy with the political situation and I don't think it's appropriate to have those themed drinks & I agree with you when you mention if the shoe was on the other foot!
I for one celebrated St Patricks day but not in support of our troubles. I live in NI, but hold an Irish passport, but still find comments like Stonemans as unnecessary on a Las Vegas forum. St Patricks day should have nothing to do with IRA bombings etc

its very dirty looking also the area outside isnt nice we went passed it to go see where a show we were attending that night was,I felt unsafe and we ended up taking a taxi to our venue.
I would not reccomend the Tropicana.

I didn't think it looked dirty, just a bit dated and that was before the refurb. I also couldn't see why it would seem unsafe at one hotel on the strip versus the dozens of other strip hotels. Some of the quieter roads or parking lots may seem a bit 'edgy', especially late at night, but isn't that true of all cities?

Plenty of people have recommended and are recommending the Trop, especially for comfy and clean rooms and value for money.

I'll let you know if my opinion changes when I stay there next week!

    Hey Guys,

I'm off to Vegas, for 8 nights from the 01 May 2012, booked a standard room. I going to Excalibur and just reading some dated reviews on the $20 dollar trick.

Anyone here had any success with the $20 dollar trick in Excalibur?

    :)

I will look forward to your thoughts, thanks. :)

Lots of very positive reviews on trip advisor for the Tropicana.

For our 3 nights as part of a road trip at the end of April prices look like this:-

    Tropicana 130
    Vdara 221
    Cosmo 261
    Mirage 261
    Planet Hollywood 271
    Mandalay Bay 280

The Trop used to be a bit dated, but since the refurb it's looking pretty good, at least compared to what it was.

The rooms have all bee remodelled and I wouldn't have any hesitation staying there at the right price.

I'd be interested to know when bluebird was there?
  • thanks everyone for the replies to my questions i knew you wouldnt let me down:j.

You did panic me about CES, but did a quick search and the dates appear to be 8th till the 11th so we should be ok.

Any more advice anyone could offer re. helicopter or air balloon flights?

ditto... was there last July (post-refurb) and went to see Gladys Knight, had some great food in one of the restaurants and had a go on the slots... it was really clean, fresh and contemporary, was really impressed with it :)
