Are there any accounts that don't report to CRA's??

I have 2 current accounts one does and one doesn't and I am seriously thinking of dumping the account that does because I don't agree with the fact it is reported.

The odd thing is is I have had the account for about 19 years and it only started reporting in 2008 and I recall receiving no letter or any notification that from "x" date my account would be grassed on to the greedy guts CRA's.

I would prefer it if Current Accounts did not report.

I expect credit greedy borrowers would disagree but my current account is my personal money and if I am not overdrawn illegally then the operation of the account is no one's business but mine and my banks - why do other people need to know? They didn't used to need to know until 2008.

Anyway if anyone knows which accounts don't report I would be pleased to know.

Clydesdale Bank offer a savings account with a Maestro Debit Card http://www.cbonline.co.uk/personal/savings/everyday-instant-access-accounts/instant-savings-account/savings-account-personal-savings and they are local to you

Nat West offer a savings account with VISA Debit card

Northern Rock offer a current account with VISA Debit card and cheque book , my account was opened a long time ago and does not report to CRA's . I don't think they report newer accounts either

I gather from your posting history that you do not use credit facilities and hold oldfashioned views , therefore a savings account with debit card or Northern Rock with its lack of internet banking may suit you
It is the Cumberland BS current account that reports. It is all green dots. The Norwich and Peterborough one does not report.

I thought that you had closed the Cumberland account - did you open a new one ?
Norwich and Peterborough report to Equifax and not Experian

I think the Halifax was the only bank that did not report to CRAs. However now they have migrated there system with Lloyds I can imagine going forward they will start to report the CRAs.

If I remember correctly accounts opened before a certain date did not report to CRAs however then there was a change in the data protection laws in 2007 I think it was which allowed the banks to share your data with the CRAs. Im sure you would have been notified of this in a change of terms and conditions.

Halifax easycash has also removed the £10 buffer that used to be on the accounts now they are on the lloyds system. If you go over by 1p it will either bounce or decline. There used to be a little leeway in it where they didn't charge you if it was under £10.

Lloyds TSB do the £10 buffer as well on their classic account. They also give you until 3.30pm to "put things right". So I'm not sure why that would be.

Hi, having a couple of searches relating to a current account application will not hurt your credit file.

As has already been said it is only multiple credit applications within a short period of time that will go against you.

As the searches are now showing with the credit reference agencies you are wasting your time ringing up to try to remove them.

They have happened, you cannot turn back time unless they are multiple searches by mistake and even then it won't be straight forward.

Neither search should be visible to other lenders , only to you and the company that searched.

In some cases having current account/savings account searches can have a positive effect on your file.

Care to elaborate on that? I'd be interested to know of some cases.
  • The same way as having lots of settled accounts on your credit file will add to your creditworthyness, the same will apply to any existing agreements being reported in a positive light on the CRA.

As long as there is no credit, and your getting green ticks over a long period of time, the accounts are going to be looked on favourably I would have thought compared to your credit file showing nothing.

I guess the classic is someone who has never had any credit, being declined for a mortgage because there is no history to look at comes to mind. At least something is being reported here which may help.

Yes I opened a new Cumberland account. No I don't have credit much now. I have some settled accounts on file which are due to drop off. Now in their 6th year of being settled. My N&P is not on my Equifax or Experian. Not sure about Call Credit.

Thanks for the link to to the Clydesdale.
  • Perhaps there should be a thread showing which Current accounts report to which agency if any. I know there is one for Credit Cards and I think it also includes Loans etc but one just for Current Accounts might be good.
