Unfortunately in reality it is not that simple. It will involve a lot of correspondence, proofs, phone call, time in writing. I will say it is really a huge effort ...

Also keep in mind that CRA get the power from the banks, lenders therefore will do whatever they can to maintain the future of their businesses.

Make that a further TWO searches:

16/12/11: HALIFAX PLC, Type: CREDIT CARD
16/12/11: HALIFAX PLC, Type: CREDIT CARD
18/12/11: HALIFAX PLC, Type: CREDIT CARD
18/12/11: HALIFAX PLC, Type: CREDIT CARD

So, to any lender looks at my file, I looks like I applied for 4 credit cards over 3 days, when I actually only applied for 1 !

Email experian, advise them that you only applied once and they will remove them for you.

I've always had to ask for the duplicate search from Halifax removing ... no idea why they duplicate the search.

Sainsburys is the same too, but that runs through the Halifax systems.

The duplicate search is an error - so how much is Halifax going to be fined by Experian etc for this and how much is going to be passed onto you as the injured party?

I am guessing £0.00 - it really needs looking into this willy nilly credit file reporting that goes on

Yeah most basic bank accounts report to CRAs now a days.

    Hi StClair,

Are there any accounts that don't report to CRA's??

I have 2 current accounts one does and one doesn't and I am seriously thinking of dumping the account that does because I don't agree with the fact it is reported.

The odd thing is is I have had the account for about 19 years and it only started reporting in 2008 and I recall receiving no letter or any notification that from "x" date my account would be grassed on to the greedy guts CRA's.

I would prefer it if Current Accounts did not report.

I expect credit greedy borrowers would disagree but my current account is my personal money and if I am not overdrawn illegally then the operation of the account is no one's business but mine and my banks - why do other people need to know? They didn't used to need to know until 2008.

Anyway if anyone knows which accounts don't report I would be pleased to know.
  • It's not just banks that report data though other companies do too. I know vodafone and virgin media are two examples.

Current accounts will report to the CRA's because you could go into a unauthorised overdraft for example using a offline debit card to pay for stuff when the money is not in your account. The bank has then lent you the money and will now no doubt charge you for the priviledge. Not sure how they would report that at the CRA though if it's not agreed in advance.

The above could happen with a basic account I guess if you have a offline debit card.

I only have one active account on my credit file and that is the current account that reports. I have a PAYG phone and that does nto report and I have no Virgin or Sky.

So why does only one of my current accounts report and why did the bank that started not write to me and tell me they would start?

So are you saying that all banks now report apart from Norwich and Peterborough because that one is not reported?

Some current (and some credit card) accounts* opened pre-1998 are only reported to the CRAs when there's 'black' data (negative account conduct). They do not report 'white' data (positive account conduct).

Is it possible that you breached your current account's T&Cs around 2008?

    * I have 2 of these myself, totalling around £12K of available credit, with Yorkshire Bank that are not reported.

It is the Cumberland BS current account that reports. It is all green dots. The Norwich and Peterborough one does not report.
