I'm just setting up my 2nd purse as I write this trying to find out single item prices for things I've bought in bulk before Christmas from Am@zonia. Then I shall get about paying myself for using them :) I got this idea from the grocery challenge thread and it sounds awesome.

    Hi ,
As part of the Frugal Living in 2012 Challenge I'm doing this as well. The payment of 80.00gbp I paid off my debts yesterday was money for food/toiletries/cleaning products that I had bought in 2011 and which I have then bought from myself in 2012.

It sounds mad, but it's actually working quite well :T

At the same time I'm also putting 10% of my weekly grocery budget into an envelope each week and this is my 'Spaving Money', it's an American term and refers to money that is then used to buy things in bulk or when on special offer. 'Spaving' comes from the combination of 'spend' and 'save' in that you're spending money to save money. I'm hoping that once I've cleared my 2011 food/toiletries/cleaning products I'll have enough 'Spaving Money' to be able to buy the special offers.

I didnt do very well with last weeks challenge. My 5 year old has a very odd diet and so although I managed to only buy bread, milks and apples for the 5 of us, I did have to stock up on his stuff which cost another £30. Its much better than it used to be when he only used to eat blueberries, cheese and bread-sticks

Which debt is your new target Sharon?

I'm hoping to clear another £11,000 (minimum) do you think I should change my figures?

Hello everyone, can I be added to this challenge please?

    I have £200 on a credit card
    £534 on my Very account
    £1500 overdraft
£2200 approx tax credits overpayment (BIG mistake on my part, tax credits are so confusing :( won't be making the same mistakes again though!)

Which takes my current debt total to £4434

I would also like to lose 35 lbs

I'm getting married this year but thankfully most of the costs have already been covered :jjust little extras to pay for like shoes!! I'd just really like to start off married life free of debt or at least knowing I’ve had a good go at paying off as much as possible. I’m going to attempt to save £500 a month from my salary & sell a lot of things on eBay. Then every few months review how much I have, anything wedding related I will need to buy and then try and make the biggest payments I can!

Thankfully for the Very account, this was for a sofa/TV so my partner is helping me to pay it off as well. He wanted to help repay the tax credits as we live together and they were for both of us/we both have spent the money but I just feel so bad that I was the one that messed them up/misunderstood. I feel like I don't want him to have to pay anything from that! We will just have to see though.
  • Hi,

Can I be added to this challenge please.

    I've got to pay off:

    £550 on a credit card
    £400 on another credit card
    £275 on a store card
    £340 on another store card
    £900 overdraft
£1780 for my mum's funeral last year

Think that brings my total amount to pay off this year to £4245

Also need to lose the LB's this year so can you add me to that challenge as well please.
I need to lose 105 pounds in total so back to weight watchers for me :(

    Hellooooooooooooooooo DF by Xmaser'ssssssssssssss

absolutely no debt busting at all, Looks like a NSD today (Dh nicked my car!! :rotfl:) starting to panic slightly about lilys party as ive not really done anything since sunday and the times slipping away from me now :( still waiting for 13 of the 26 kids to reply :( not doing anything for my stress levels as im tryingto make sure I have enough prizes but dont really want to make 30 of everything then have 13 kids turn up :(

Right off to re-number the girl prizes as I realised ive done both the boy and girl prize numbers in the same colour and as my mother is in charge of this game I can see some girl happily walking off with a water gun and a little boy looking a bit dubious at the pretty pink pencil and sherbert hes won

Happy debt busting/money saving people will try to pop back later . . . . hopefully with stuff done

Does anyone know roughly what percentage the student loans company take per month once you're earning over the threshold? I've included their £17,000 in my total debt so any money they take is paying something back, but I'd prefer to have the option of paying in the order I think would benefit me most, i.e. Student Loan last!!

Hiya, if you are on the post 98 system, then the student loan company take 9% of everything you earn over £15 000. So after tax, national insurance and basic rate income tax you should be left with around 59% of your bonus.

Hello you lovely lot, feeling much better today, got my lists together... by June's payday I will have paid 22.8% of my debt and be back down to 6k - that is a good feeling :)

I have a quick question, overdraft or loan to pay off first? Overdraft could be taken away at any moment but the loan only takes £17 off the balance (roughly) and I have to pay £96 a month for it... but I have to pay £60 for my overdraft (£2 a day) so I don't know what to do for the best, what do you reckon? Once the balance on the overdraft gets to £2500 (£500 away) the fees go down to £30 a month (£1 a day)

Anyone feel like they are wishing their lives away by counting paydays?! Friday cannot come quick enough for another £40 against my crappy debt :)

    Keep it going peoples! xxx
