Great news Jemma, in the current climate a secure job is nothing to be sniffed at, especially with what you're working to pay off. Loads of people, me included, just treat most appraisals as a box ticking exercise, but in this case it sounds like you were surprised with how highly they thought of you? You may not have paid off all your debt yet, but you're way ahead of some of us!

I think until you be honest in these meetings then you rarely get to find out what people actually think of you. I recently asked for a transfer back to my old job (as the person I was meant to replace has charmingly decided not to leave!) and I was expecting a nice to work with you cheerio kind of response, but they've gone out of their way to try and swap things around, and even though the other person is still there and I'm doing half a job, I may stick around for a little longer.

I'll update my totals later on, got some freelancing money in and bonus payday, so might be edging forward.
    DFW - DEBT FREEEEEE!

    Total - 10762/10762 :)

Every silver lining has its cloud.

Oooh well done Jemma :) sounds awesome and I'm glad you told them about that bloke, he sounds horrid. Noone needs rot at the core of the business anyway :)

No debt busting today, but I have booked my hotel on expenses for work next week in Edinburgh :) other than the work bit during the day I'm going to try to see some sites whilst I'm up there, never been before!

I agree with being honest at work. If you don't say anything then it can't get better! I've been having a hard time with my manager at work for the past year and I finally said something a couple of weeks ago...within 2 days I was moved into a different department in a much better job! So it all worked out for the best :j

In the past I would've just quit but I'm so glad I spoke up and it was resolved really quickly.

On a money-saving note (or not) I have been very naughty and bought a flight to see my Mum in Africa, where she moved last year. I'm going to go surprise her for her birthday so I'm really excited but it does mean that my debt-free date will be a couple of months later. I wanted to feel part of this challenge but my 0% deal doesn't end until August 2013 so it won't actually cost me any more, and I had already saved the cost of the flight in my savings account in order to pay off the 0% card in a lump sum so it's not too bad and I get to see my Mum for the first time in a year :j I'm just sorry I won't be able to graduate with you all at the end of the year :(

Seeing your mum is really important Catmort, life is not a dress rehearsal so we have to do the things that matter. Spending money on frivolous things like Tv's and takeaways is what we are trying to cut down on. Have a fabulous time hun!!! xxx

Thanks everyone, I feel really better about my work situation now. I can't say too much on a public forum but big things are coming our way!

    I'm a lil tipsy tonight...

Thanks, that makes me feel better! In the future I'll remember visiting her and 2 months difference in my DFD will be forgotten!

  • Well done Jemma!

Catmort, don't regret it... it will be an amazing trip!

I'm waiting to hear from work after letting them the outcome of my appointment. Trying to decide whether to just quit and get another job or what. Potentially it could be another 6 months before I can fly, depending on dates of operations and not sure it's sustainable. It was never a forever job, but I've been there 5 years and having the decision moreorless taken out of your control is unfair!

Exactly, you have to do the right thing and seeing your mum is definitely the right thing. :D

I'm feeling really guilty about the fact I'm going to be going to Edinburgh on business next week, staying in a 4* hotel in a king size/2 double bed room, and can't think of a single person who might want to tag along for free. Is this normal?

I've tried racking my brain for someone I know that might have time off work and fancy a jolly up to Edinburgh, but I can't think of anyone :( Just seems a waste. If the OH were here he'd be on it like a tramp on chips, loads of sight seeing up there and everything. I doubt he'd even mind the fact I am working 9-6 as Edinburgh's meant to be so lovely.
