Debt busting going well and have just got £130 cash back for moving to sky ( same monthly cost ) so that'll be extra. hubby still not had lbm so some small tiffs about that ( think he wants debt paid off and no lifestyle change in the mean time and i get annoyed at amount of money he waste's smoking ) but need to let him figure it out himself i think ! really glad this is still going as is a really good motivater. For the first time in years i'll be under £9000 by the end of the month and can rally see me having £0 near to the end of the year. Yippee !!!!

    Yippee Rosiest :)

    Has anyone thought of ways to encourage the OH's lbm? I know we can't force it on them, but maybe if we come up with little things together we can help them get there quicker. Like...urm...calendar detailing daily spends, sticking price labels on the food in the cupboards, changing the "smoking kills" label to including "£1200/yr" or something like that... obviously these are just ideas ;)

    I think the trick is with men is you have to;

    a) make them think it was their idea in the first place.

    b) Not nag them, because then you are just getting at them and will dig their heels in

    c) Encourage them with promises of something nice in return; something perhaps they've always wanted or an mse weekend away (they don't have to know it's cheap!!) i.e Cutting down/ giving up smoking then would mean you save x amount each month and with that they could buy/ have (insert something they are interested in and really want)

    unfortunately with the smoking, nothing stops them until they want to stop :( I actually got DH to pot in a sealed tin everytime he would have bought a pack of fags and made him open and count it at the end of the year. Over £260 in there, he was horrified and upset that he would have wasted all that money, blah blah blah . . 2 months later, he was buying them again :o

    One thing DH did say to me was that he couldnt retain the money information and he needed it constantly put in front of him, reminding of the debt and how much things he wants are pushing back our debt free date. He also said my being such a control freak over the finances, keeping it all too my own chest makes it easier to believe we are not in as bad a straights as we are and 'forget' the need to budget.

    I have an app on my iPhone telling me exactly how many days I've not smoked, how many cigarettes I've not smoked, and how much to the penny I've saved since quitting. It's very reassuring and inspiring. :D
