I want to cry! (well, not really - but I am very upset :()

Got hold of OH's bank statement for last month and he's been spending again! This means that not only are we back a month because I messed up our wedding budget but also have to give an update that takes our total backwards :(:(:(

    #077: £2,379/£16,660.26 14.78%

And that's best case scenario as I only have statements to 1st March....

    Oh, and he's smoking again!!!

    Happy happy days. :o
Sorry to hear this Helen, is there anything you can do to give him his LBM? If you're going to beat the debt you need to be a united front :) What was he spending it on, anything in particular or just bits and pieces? If it's just being frittered then maybe he needs to learn to budget so that he can "earn" his play money by not going overbudget. Just an idea.

Welcome  As Jakes-Mum said, it doesn't matter how much you do or don't owe. We already have members that have paid off their debts and so are now using the support in here to save money ;)

Just stuff. Mostly cigarettes and alcohol, I guess... We had agreed on pocket money so that we had to budget but he got his card back (I can't remember why, but I had to give it to him for something....) and now I'm having trouble asking for it back without sounding petty. I will have to have it to withdraw the next lot of pocket money at the end of next week, so he only has about 10 days left in which he can do damage (though he's away for a weekend in-between and is off work all this week ) I've not exactly been whiter-than-white with my spending this last month or so either, so that makes it even more difficult as I don't want to be hypocritical about it.

With his time off this week, I think I will show him the wedding budget in more detail: try and shock him into realising how hard we need to work at this! ;) (He doesn't always pay as much attention as I would like though!) x

I give my OH a card & I transfer a certain amount of money into it each month - if its done its done.

All the wages go into my main account & all the bills get paid out of that.

You know what it did seem petty at the beginning but he did eventually just get on with it without moaning :rotfl:

I'm sure they'll be happy when we have ZERO debt

Flippin heck....I think I've found the answer. What I really need is a wife to take control of all the money and tell me off for spending!

Can't believe how many people are just hopeless with their money... then again, that's how I got here.

Keep plugging away at it Helen, we do have thick skulls but once something does get through then it tends to stay there.

  • Discussion re OH's made me laugh - they definitely have to be kept in control don't they. DH now makes me take out his weekly money so he's not tempted to take out anymore, yesterday he rang me to check whether he could buy something and today when I asked what the 50p on the worktop was and whether I could put it in the sealed pot he said "it's mine, good grief I can't even put pennies down anymore!" :rotfl:. At least he was joking when he said it (I think ).

PS thanks for weekly challenge Kerri :)

Mr Ghostlove pays me about 1/4 of his income per month towards the bills (we're both disabled and on benefits and I get the lion's share), he pays half towards groceries and petrol when he can (it's my car). After that he has a budget for - don't laugh - comic books. It's a hobby of his, and it's harmless. I figure a lot of manshapes his age are drinking their money away or worse, I'd far rather have one addicted to funnybooks. ;)
I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Lemon Tree, well done. That definitely motivated me to start tackling mine for next month.

Kerri love this challenge. Had Sunday dinner at friends yesterday and just sat in the back garden for ages then took the kids to the park

Helen Pie, feeling guilty as this is the argument going on in my head!

Well just bit the bullet and paid £149.50 for the dogs prescription for the next month.

And no thats not a typo. So gone a bit backwards but put some more money in so only £35.35 off my figure on here. Now have itchy fingers waiting for pay day in 10 days.
