  • Well done KS2008, absolutly nothing wrong with 2nd hand at all. You can bag some real bargains.

Well done WV campervan mum also on a cheap and guilt free half term.

I have stopped feeling guilty about hols and we do everything as cheap as possible as the kids know I am a woman on a mission to clear debts. Someone on theis thread I think said to let them know how much money you have in the budget so told them until I got paid on Fri had £34.11 so no-one said a word. Because they were good we had a treat fri and Sat teas of fish and chips and chinese. Blew the £34 but had been paid by then.:T

Waiting for Barclaycard bill to arrive so that I can finally start to clear some of my debt. Have been paying bits off this month but not included this as have spent on it so cleared that if that makes sense.

Can't wait to see the really start debt go down.

Feeling very positive at the mo with my debts so good luck everyone else with theirs and keep up the hard work.;)

Ooh Jemma you need to get potty :p mot works out at about £5 a month into the pot, servicing £20 a month into the pot and car insurance depends on what yours costs divided by 12. Car tax is also about £20 a month, that way you've got the extra little bits like brake pads covered. I think I put aside about £80 a month to cover everything.this might seem huge, but it's nice when I've got a £200 service and don't have to panic about how I'm going to eat for the month :)

I've got an app on my phone that uses the same principle, but envelopes in place of pots. It's quite useful...easy envelope budget aid. It's online and has android & iphone apps https://eebacanhelp.com/about.php
  • Yes I'm now using your 'Pots spreadsheet' Kerri and am much more organised because of it - when I have my car service next week I will actually have the money to pay it and won't have to put it on credit card - this is amazing for me :j!!
I've just found this month as it's the first I've budgeted properly that things keep coming up that I hadn't budgeted for, as I'd forgotten about them. But the longer I do it probably the less unexpected things will come up (I hope :o).

A little bit more has gone off but I had to buy a new computer this weekend  - but I did it from savings, so at least it doesnt go back on the total.

One more month of MBNA Loan and then its done!! Its taken me 8 years to clear debt from my previous relationship, but I'm almost there now.

Don't know what we're going to do:( This definatley wasn't in my plan for being debt free by xmas, We were doing so well and if i had known what was ahead i would have put some of the money i've been paying off to one side.

I am feeling very down so am going to have an early night :o

  • Blimey, I'll never catch up on all these posts! Looks like everyone's having a mixed time of it. I managed to keep to my half term budget and have got all the packed lunches ready for tomorrow when normal life resumes. Keep checking the bank accounts in case some unexpected credit appears (ever the optimist!:rotfl:) but sadly no spare money to pay of any more this week.

Must also get into this pots system as my mot/service/car insurance and house insurance all fall due within a 3 week period at end of august and it gets me every time!

floridafairy, that is awful news you must be worried sick. Don't blame yourself, at least you had the LB moment and think of the money you're saving on the interest. Once you've got over the initial shock hopefully you can get your heads together and make some plans. Good luck.
