Where did yo get your sewing machine from? I have been toying with the idea for ages. I used to make my own clothes when I went to college 25 years ago and I look at clothes now and think I could make that. I brought some t-shirt material from a market last year £1 a metre enough to make a t-shirt!8 years of being on a DMP finished 3/3/140 -
Welcome loublouking, and good morning to all the frugalists,
I feel at little bit frustrated as I'm not able to give exact amounts as still awaiting credit card amount from xmas overspend. My DoH and I have just spent our first xmas together and he was chastising me (in a nice way) for how "over the top" I went at xmas. I wanted to make our first (of hopefully very many) xmas's as special as possible and made a big effort with house decorations and little special touches. However, I have to say that it was very reassuring to know that we are on the same wave-length in terms of money. His ex spent massive amounts of money (mainly on herself) and he just let her get on with it, but I think he is also pleased that we both know the real value of money. I am back to work tomorrow so need to get my finger out today for organising, organising, organinsing.....unfortunately that means spending money, liquid gold for the car and pack up stuff for packed lunches, will scrimp as much as possible. Have a great day everyone. x0 -
Quiet day here as kids are back at school.
Have to go to Post Office to post an Ebay parcel, then up into the loft to sort out some clothes for a local clothes sale next month -I've finally decided to get rid of the maternity clothes I've been hanging onto. My youngest is nearly 8 LOL!

Hellooooooooooooooooo DF by xmaser'sssssssssssssss
Ooooo look at you all with your shinynew sewing machinesI love mine, I did have a really cheap one from tesco which I lent to my mum just after I bought it and it broke. SHe took it to a bloke who fixes them and he said he had had no end of them brought in and they really weren't any good
but she then bought me a new one (much more expensive ) which is still going strong
It will actually be out today as I need to make beanbags for the beanbag toss and knock a sweet stalls for lilys partyI've decided i must be a real cheapskate as ive made everything for lilys birthday party and have only spent about £70 which includes the £30 for the hall hire
We should have roughly 20 kids coming as well

Time for me to finally confess the damage of Christmas spending

How terrible to have gone backwards. But my loan payment will be made tomorrow, which should improve the situation but I will leave the next update until nearer the end of the month now.
OH has been spending on heaven knows what again and so was short on his contributions to the pot this month (reached/exceeded OD limit). He has, however, received a couple of hundred pounds in a Christmas bonus, but I've put that in his account to keep us away from any unauthorised borrowing charges.
We have both handed over all of our debit cards and they are now being left at home. We have £15 p/w "pocket money" (an idea I took from another MSEer - can't remember who but if you're here, thank you!). I've withdrawn this for the month of January so we know where we are and it's divided up in envelopes for each weekOH has, however, kept his joint account card which is for petrol only (don't ever want to get stuck without, and his not so organised to fill up regularly :rotfl:). I will take mine out of hiding each weekend to do grocery shopping only.
All sounds promising. Only I didn't go shopping this weekend so had no food for lunches, so did a mini shop near work to make sandwiches but had to use my pocket money as didn't have my card:rotfl::(
Anyway, enough chatter for one morning. Have a good day lovely people.

Thanks, think i'll spend tomorrow downloading the letters etc, fingers crossed. Did you get anything back?
Gemred - still waiting to hear back from the bank, I keep getting letters saying they will send me an update in a month's time (again!) Hubby made a successful claim from his bank, that's what spurred him on to try and claim mine back.
:wave:Morning all!
Those of you who have overspent and feel your debt has gone up over Christmas, don't worry! December is a tough time to start debtbusting.
The only reason my debt hasn't increased is because DH has gone into his (authorised and interest free) overdraft by £360but we decided this was better than whopping debt on the CC. Hopefully we can get his overdraft paid up next payday if we initially just pay the minimum on the CC.
Doing well on the weekly challenge - my freezer is jammed pack full of HM frozen meals, enough to last us at least 2 weeks. I did have to buy fresh fruit n veg (made veggie soups, noe to try n fit them in the freezer!) on Tuesday but that should see us through the week and possibly beyond:)0 -
Would someone mind posting a reminder of this week's challenge? I got so far behind on the thread that I've only managed to skim read and couldn't spot it.....
Thanks

HAPPPY NEWWW YEEEAARRR DEEBBBTTT BUUUSSTTTERRRRSSSS
This weeks mini-challenge, announced early, is to eat out of the freezer and cupboards. You bought all that food for Christmas, now eat it all uptins, pastas, spaghetti that takes ages to cook, stews, soups made from wilting sprouts. I wonder who can have the cheapest grocery budget of the week???
Here's a reminder of the weekly challenge0
