As a mum, we will always love our babies! (yes I know its so cliche)

Even when you paint the carpet, or embarrass me in public. Even when you tell me you hate me. Or use me as a never ending cash machine.

    Mum's love kids!

Your parents will appreciate you telling them, plus it could explain why you have been stressed/ down.

There is more to life then money

Never heard of a Petals course - I will do some googling.

Thanks everyone, I just need a bit of a push to be brave sometimes, I have a tendency to resist change if left to my own devices!

Hi, The petals course is for teaching adults (those over 19) and is PTTLLS (Preparing To Teach in The Lifelong Learning Sector), it is pronounced petals for some reason. I did it and taught for 2 years and loved every minute but unfortunately the sector I was in had their funding cut so I had to go on a sessional contract, but could only get two sessions a week , and I couldn't live on that money as only get paid for 30 weeks of the year max... now I work in an office :(

    So here's a thought.

My mum and dad know nothing of my debt. They only think I have debt with them (£1350 as it stands). I have an extra £7000 that they know nothing about. I don't live with them and I don't have to tell them anything I don't want to.

So the question is, do I tell them? What's the worst that could happen? (they wouldn't disown me) and how on earth should I bring it up if I do?

I think I should tell them but how no idea how! xxx

Dont be embarassed by your debt and I understand wanting to tell your mum, im a mum of 2 kids and I still told my mum all about my debt in the car one day after a row with DH and his spending.

My mum was not disappointed in me or anything, she was just pro-active about it. What are you doing to get rid of it, how long do you think it will take, how much money are you paying toward it etc.

My hardest thing now is trying to stop her bailing me out  every so often she slips it into the conversation when im off my guard, the last one being 'if we stopped overpaying on our mortgage and cleared DH's CC you could then pay us back on 0% rather than re financing it' . . . . . . Umm not on your nelly woman!! Me dads gonna be 65 this year, get rid of your mortgage

Ooooh don't get me started on GTP's I wanted to teach citizenship (the subject hardly exists as it is!) as I have a massive interest in sex ed. (and now money lol) but I got nowhere, I even offered my services in Media too... again -rubbish! If you can get a GTP run with it! I wrote to every school in a 30 mile radius and no one wanted me :'( So now I am gonna become a nurse as specialise in sexual health :A xxx

I'm not a nurse but work in sexual health for part of my job, which also includes school work etc. You'll love it, the young people are fantastic and make my job the best job ever! No day is the same and every young person presents a different story and you get some stories :rotfl:

Antonia Go for it!! Its the best thing I ever did. I went to uni at the age of 23 to change my career path and wouldn't look back now! Trust your gut feelings and you'll be happy.

With regards to your boyfriend - me and my hubby felt like this after a month and 10 years on we are still together, so again trust your gut feeling, it never lets you down! I hoe your happy with whatever you decide :)

  • Wooooo, 5 nsds in a row and I just cooked a yummy lentil shepherd's pie with sweet potato and carrot mash on top, using half a recipe from MSE and half one from the S@insbury's 'Live Well For Less' website. I've never cooked anything so complicated before - this meal planning thing is quite rewarding!:j

How did your Mum react rdchick?

Thanks guys, so yeah told them, they are glad I told them but now I am getting the lectures of money -haven't told them about this place yet, incase they go spying on me lol! However Mum said she thought I was in debt but was shocked by how much. She also said they weren't in a position to bail me out or even say don't worry about not paying us back... I feel bad that that is what they thought I wanted, it's not in the slightest. I have said I got myself into this mess and I am hellbent on getting myself out of it.

Telling them has made me even more determined to get out of debt quicker, I am now thinking of ways to make money on top of what I already earn (which isn't much but better than nothing) I already have a second job, sold most of my stuff on eBay... Do surveys and cash back... What's left?! Xxx

Ps: Gem that's awesome! I applied to be a HCA in sexual health the other day... Heard nothing back yet :( xxx
