eddi it was easy for me cos I mainly watched an expert
We used a cooking thermometer too - same boiling point as jam - it took ages to get to the correct temperature but it wont set unless you get hot enough - it means it is the right fruit/sugar/liquid ratio. V scientific

Also, how do you work out how much you can get back? I'm moving out beginning of April, licence valid til June... thanks!
Hi psychopathbabble,
I think the TV licence is valid from the 1st of the month to the end of the month, the only reason I think this is because the very first time I purchased a licence just after I got married on the 16th of the month, the guy at the post office suggested I waited until the 1st of the following month so that I would get the full benefit of a complete month. So assuming a licence is purchased on the 1st Jan, the end of the first quarter would be the 31st March, the second quarter would commence on 1st April and end on 30th June. So if your licence is valid til the end of June then you need to cancel your licence before the 31st March, (give the licencing authority plenty of notice).
How much you get back depends on how long there is left on the licence, in your case you only have 3 months left so I assume you would get 1/4 of the full licence fee (somebody will have to remind me how much a full years fee is as I don't have one).
It would be great if somebody else could confirm this, just to make sure I'm not giving out of date advice0 -

I've just cooked a load of carrot and pearl barley soup (from the GI Diet website), which should be enough to see me through the week for lunches and some dinners. Boring having the same thing for every meal, but I don't have the energy/inspiration to cook much during the week and not much room to freeze meals. Plus I get dinner at a friend's house every Weds night :j
I'm not very good at planning ahead and I like to be spontaneous and not pin myself down to cooking a proper meal when I'm tired, and since I've only myself to look after I can be more off-the-cuff.
I have a lot of green veg in the fridge that I can steam for the rest of my dinners and some nut cutlets in the freezer. I live right next to a big Sainsbury's so tend to get something fresh to eat on the way home, like salmon or avocado, with my steamed veggies.
For breakfast I've got enough fruit to see me through a week of my usual breakfast of:
a banana, a plum, a kiwi, some blueberries, and some raw spinach(!).
(most are on special in Sainsbury's at the moment)
I have issues with acid reflux so the spinach to to counterbalance the acid in the fruit.
Roast dinner is my favourite meal but I can't cook it and it's probably best reserved for special occasions or I'd be tempted to eat too much meat!
Hopefully this menu will counterbalance my weekend of over-eating (I've been out with friends for the past 3 nights) so that I don't have another reflux episode, as they are not nice!Debt Free by Xmas 2012 member #281: £6,627.08/£7,735.45 (85.67%)0 -

I applied for loads of different jobs when decided to go back to work after the kids, when I didn't even get an interview for a crappy little receptionist job at a builders merchant up the road on minimum wage I decided I'd have to bite the bullet and do a return to practice nursing course. I'm so glad I did, I've been back three years now and it was the best thing I did. And patients are the same wherever you go, they are still scared and confused and need caring for whether it's 1989 or 2012. After doing that course I got the studying bug so I'm now on a secondment training course for a more senior role doing my degree. I'd have never got that working on a reception desk!
Hi recurrent-ostrich,
This is the exact position I'm in at the moment, (not a builder's receptionist ) I'm just not even getting interviews, even for minimum pay work, and when even those are far and few between it just leaves me feeling like there's nothing I can do about being unemployed.
Your comments have come just at the right time for me, thank you soooooo much, you've really helped to get me psyched up again.0 -
See this is where my love of cooking and baking comes in
I love cooking a roast dinner, roastie potatoes, yorkshire pudding, meat, stuffing, parsnips for me, carrots for the kids, pea and carrots for DH

Hi peeps....
Quick question, each month I pay a loan through work, as part of the contract allowing me to get the loan I pay £10 extra into a saver, which will go to paying off the balance once it equals it......can I add that to my debt free total (it's about £200 at the mo)???? or is that cheating;)??!! Ta xx0
