Just want to thank MSE Andrea for bringing this service to my attention. I use it every day now and I have been impressed so far.
Thank you.0 -
Can my friends and relatives in Canada sign up for 1899voip and call me for free in the UK. They pay a fortune to call me from over there and can't believe I only pay pennies for calling them.
An earlier post mentioned that he called the UK for free using his 1899voip account whilst traveling in the USA.
Would they have to sign up as being in the UK?0 -

They can always give it a try and see what happens!0 -

They would need to sign up as if from the UK with 1899.
Though if they are considering using a VoIP service, and you are using a VoIP service, then the easiest way is for them is to get a free VoIP service, they could use FWD or even Sipgate and get a UK phone number (Need to use a proxy server to fool Sipgate in thinking they are using the internet from the UK).
With FWD you can call Sipgate for free and vice versa.
The way I would do it is, for your relatives at least is sign up for a Sipgate number for youself, and then sign up using your details for another Sipgate number for them, you need to use different email addresses, give them the details, and then call each other using Sipgate. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Would be interesting to find out - if your friends and relatives in Canada could use it. I thought 1899 might use the IP address - but they cannot since my IP address is a German one. So as long as the telephone number is a UK one they should be ok for VOIP - 1899 over landlines would not work since wouldn't route (I think ?).
Thanks Bextech ( just testing Martin's new innovation).0 -

If they use the 1899 VoIP service they would dial the number as if they are in the UK.
I've been pretty impressed with both Sipgate and 1899's VoIP service, using the latter since the day the released it.
What new innovation is this? It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Your Canadian friends would have to register what looks like a UK number. But you can easily 'fool' 1899 into accepting numbers like 01000000000; however, I have registered that one so you may have to find another number!
Another possibility, If you trust them, is to let them use your account to call free destinations only.0 -
My thought on the IP address was when setting up a 1899 a/c that they may go on UK IP address - as stated they mustn't since mines German. So Ok there.
The innovation I refer to - is the little thank you button at the bottom of each post - that shows up on the OP post.0 -
