Another 'hit and miss' poster signing in for January!
My December has been very merry and jolly with far too much to eat and drink so I will have to reign it in during January.

GC, thanks for your wise words and to everyone else for being so open and honest. I have found great support here but need to pay more attention to myself, my thoughts and habits.
I did look up the dryathelon and think it's a great idea. I don't really want to be sponsored though so not sure if I'll officially sign up.

Thanks too to Shaggy and Mackeroo for keeping track of everything.
I am going to sign up for 20 AFDs in January, which should also help with our dire finances!
    Trying to keep in budget.

  • Hi

I am going for the cancer research dryathalon. I am not asking for any sponsorship from anyone, but I am going to put in £1 per day for every AF day and £15 per day for any day that I have a drink.

Wish me luck, I normally drink most nights, even if its only a glass of wine or 2

I had to replace my car, I got a tesco interest free cc with 18 months interest free period

£5600 with 18 months to pay it.

It’s been months since I last stepped out of the corner where I’ve been lurking all year, so I thought I’d just pop my head into the room to say ‘hello’.

Tomorrow it will be one year since I last had a drink – and whilst I don’t often post here, I do have this thread to thank for that. If I hadn’t stumbled across you all back in January then I’m sure that countless bottles of wine would have been drunk this year (not to mention massive amounts of money spent) and that a glass would be in my hand right now. It was during my usual ‘alcohol-free January’ that I found this thread and having read back to the beginning, plus a couple of the old threads, I took up the recommendation of Allan Carr’s book and (as annoying as I found it) it turned out, for me, to have been the best investment I’ve ever made.

There have only been two minor wobbles during the year. On my birthday and on the day that we finally completed the sale of the-house-that-I-thought-would-never-sell, when I felt that I ought to have a glass of something fizzy by way of celebration. However, on analysis, it was purely a feeling of ‘surely I should’ rather than any real craving. It soon passed.

I still read the thread constantly, and will be forever grateful for what you’ve unknowingly done for me this year :)

All the best for 2013, everyone!

Fantastic. Well Done and thanks for coming back and sharing. I also have this thread to thank for stopping drinking. I'm sure it has many many people it has helped. I lurk mainly now but pop in from time to time.

Happy and Healthy new year to all.

    365days - Sober since 26th October 2009 :T

ETA; Special Happy New Year to GC. Who is, in my eyes, a star!

Maman, you have to keep posting whether you need to or not - you'd be sorely missed if you left! You're the star and voice of moderate controlledness ;-)

    Hello All.

I used to join in this challenge and would love to sign up again - New Years resolutions and all! I would like to set my target at 23 AFD in January, please Shaggy. It does sound like a lot but I am aiming just to have a glass or two on Fridays and Saturdays. My downfall is habit and boredom so I will address both this year.

Looking forward to joining you all on this journey, new faces and old! x

  • Morning,

Happy New Year to you all and I hope it brings you all you hope for.

I knitted my way through Hogmanay watching TV. Acompanied by some loudly clanging bells which I managed to resist.

Lovely to see some sunshine at last this morning.
