Should also mention I'm getting external support (so no likely to keel over!) but would really like peer support also and know how people are doing, either if they've given up or are cutting down x

I was a wine drinker. Lots of wine, drank vodka and beer too but wine, ah, could guzzle it like well....wine!!

You've made the huge first step to being sober. Realising you have a problem and seeking help. Take it a day at a time or even an hour at a time if need be.

While I was drinking I didn't really feel anything. If I did have an emotion that I wasn't happy with I'd just have a drink. In fact I think for years my overiding 'emotion' was drunk. When I stopped I found that I felt stuff again, that was the hardest part dealing with the 'stuff' rather than just drinking those feelings down. Hope that makes sense. So you may be feeling crap and that is normal! You are beginning to feel again!

For the millionth time i recomend this book.

    All the best!

Thank you for your kind words. I'm on day 3 alcohol free today. I've been sweating loads at night and generally feeling a bit rubbish. How long does that go on for? I'm trying to get through it but it's pretty hard. I don't want to drink anymor, it makes me so unhappy and I literally cannot have one drink. That's impossible for me.
Tonight i'm meeting up with a support group so that should help. I'm more worried about my little boy. He comes home tomorrow and he's only 4. I won't be able to get out to the support group and I wonder how i'm going to cope without that. Any suggestions? I've already found this thread really useful and have spent hours reading it today, nodding my head and crying at times. It's amazing how well you are all doing. J X

I will order the book on Friday when my Christmas cheque clears....rather than spend it on wine as I would usually! X

AA run meetings at all different times of day. You must of been spending nearly £10 a day on booze, so use that to get a babysitter if you feel that you really need the meetings. I only went to AA once when I was feeling wobbly. Make sure you are drinking loads. Fizzy water, coke anything really. Sugary drinks help. Have you looked at AA website? There are other people here who can advise more on AA but I'm sure there is a way around you getting to a meeting. You sound like you are really serious in doing this. Just take it an hour at a time when you are feeling crap. It's 6pm now. Can you go without a drink until 7pm?

Hello everyone, don't know if you remember me at all from a while ago?

Anyway, just popping on to wish you all a Happy New Year and good luck with all of your plans and goals.

As for me I spent my first alcohol free New Year's Eve for 23years. No bells, no temptation and no triggers. Had very few drinks all year and the most in December for all year but no more than 2 in one go - 2 units.

I have signed up to the Dryalthalon challenge, not because it will be a challenge, it won't but because I choose to. For me, my relationship with alcohol is lessening and the grip is much looser than at any point before.

I wish you all the best I really do. I have come so far in almost 4yrs from the point of drinking bottles of wine 4 times a week to this year spending a large proportion of it with no alcohol at all and not missing it. I really can take it or leave it as I have shown myself I can do. If I can do it, so can you x

Hiya. Yes you're right about the money. Unfortunately at the moment ive spent a large portion of money for bills etc so for the next few weeks, no extras (unless you count rent!) Honestly what a mess. Anyway, ive managed to get a lift tonight and a babysitter on Friday and i'll think about next week later. One day at a time and all that. Thanks for the advice and I'll be back...x
