One more AF day please Shaggy that's 3/6.
Yesterday was good, not so good tonight though. I think it's known as an "epic fail" to the yoof, but I got home, no-one here - pub.
On the plus side, I've "only" had what was a normal night's beer, but :mad::mad:
I've got the Beat the Booze book on my Kindle though, so maybe that's a plus.
So, I'm going to be positive, 3 days AF = PB. Still facing up to the problem, and have now got the AF morning-after joy back in recent memory.
And as TD says, Thank you all :A
Welcome to unself - read back and you'll know you are in good company. If you read back on just my posts(back to Nov 2010!) you'll know you're not alone.:p Good luck!:T
Smoke-free since Jan 2012 :j Now its just the drink, and the weight, and life in general0 -

Last night was the closest I've come since being here to having a drink. I announced my desire when I got home and DW, in her clever wily womanly way, even offered to go out and buy it for me. A most carefully measured offer, which I refused.
Oddly, I think if she had taken the approach last night of saying I shouldn't have a drink, I probably would have pushed back and been more determined to get drunk. Women and the way they know their husbands!I think you have a very special woman there TD, I don't think I would have thought to try the reverse pyscology, great tactic though.
And here's a thought that came to me the other night: I was feeling quite frustrated and annoyed recently at the amount of time my head is shouting out for a drink and the fight I have so as to not have one. Maybe, I thought, it would just all be easier to go back to drinking again. Just a little bit (ha ha ha ha ha). Then I realised that it makes no difference whether I am drinking or not, there's still the shouting in my head and the fight I have so as to not have one. I really like this point, it tells me that as long as the argument reigns in my head, I still have a problem with alcohol. People that don't have issues wouldnt give this head space. Thanks for summing that up so clearly for me, i'll remember that one.:T
But, being AF (so far), I get some really good benefits.- Good sleep
- NO hangovers!!!
- Less grumpy
- Easier to get up in the mornings (at 5am)
- Feeling proud at what I have achieved
- A better bank balance
- And, tonight, a feeling of quite wonderful calmness
Thank you sooooooo much everyone :A:A:A
Shaggy another AF for me please making it 4. Crickey the amount of times I have had to go back and correct your name as i've inadvertently typed something else!!!!!!:rotfl:
Mari, another AF please for the SNCLive for the moment and plan for the future0 -

On the plus side, I've "only" had what was a normal night's beer, but :mad::mad: Now don't beat yourself up too much, its frustrating and annoying, but you beat your PB and you stayed in control.Maybe you set your sights too high too quick? If so, this allows for failure and guilt and then thinking sod it and stop trying. You've gone from drinking everyday to suddenly giving it your all again. How about easing yourself back in slowly? Maybe for a while, 1 or 2 AF days followed by a nonAF, then 2-3 AF followed by 1 non etc. Your giving yourself permission to drink without feeling guilty then.
Just an idea to ponder on anyway.
I've got the Beat the Booze book on my Kindle though, so maybe that's a plus. Certainly is!

GOODNIGHT ALL!Live for the moment and plan for the future0 -
A PB is good Markman, now you can build on it!! Don't worry, everyone falls off from time to time, the trick is to get back on and not give in to that s*d it feeling. You're right to think of that lovely, smug feeling after an AF night. It's remembering the positives (take a look at td's list:T)that'll make you want more (AF days that is;)).
I almost had a s*d it night myself tonight. I've got a very social week and although my drinking is now well controlled I did consider what was the point in trying for any Af nights. Of course there's a point, it's good to give my liver a rest, it keeps me in touch, it cuts calories, it saves me about £6!! That's what I told myself and I listened!:D
2AFDs for September please Shaggy.0 -
Morning :hello:
Just 1 more AFD Mari - I'm afraid I had a drink on Tuesday after a long day. Back on the wagon last night.
Can't believe it's Thursday already!

*Mari* 3 SNC AF days so far. 3 as I am NOT drinking tonight. Woo hoo!!!
Shaggy 5 Sep challenge AF days so far. Again, definitely no drinking happening here tonight.
Welcome unself. As CuppaTea kindly says, this is indeed a very supporting forum, as I am sure you will remember. I find that just knowing I would have to post a non-AF day really helps me to stay clear of the booze.
mrsrainman, that's really good news that MrR has been reading the book. Let's face it, whatever the motivation to start reading the book, 38% of the way through means that something must have sparked his interest :T. I wish you and he all the best of luck. I only wish I could find my kindle...

So, here to this evening and this is the first night that I don't have to fight a serious wine-o-clock craving. It's not really there tonight and that is really lovely. I'm sure this is not the end of the cravings but it's just a lot more peaceful to not be having a fight in my head :rotfl:

Hi everyone.
1 AFD for me so far. Not a particularly good start, but I did only have 1 lovely G&T on one of the nights I drank and I really enjoyed it.
