  • Hi all

I'm afraid I haven't been on here for a long time for various reasons, however I have shaken myself & realised it is long over due my return to this thread & my goal of cutting the booze down.

Therefore Shaggy my target is 15days for April - I have completed 1 AFD so far, which hasn't been included within the target.

Now off to catch up on other peoples diaries/comments

    Take care all

Hi-welcome to the thread melg1973-you've come to the right place for support. I'm really not sure about your question about the safety of giving up cold turkey-maybe someone else can shed some light on this. Well done crazymum-you've acheived so much and it's great that your OH has given up too. I've got 3 afds to report now. It's easy when I'm on nights but I know i'll be drinking Easter Weekend but my target is not to go overboard, stay up too late and have a sicky feeling all the next day. I drove to a party on Saturday and had a great time chatting and dancing-I don't need a drink-in fact I think it makes me more boring to drink!

The only thing that is worrying me is a friend told me of someone that had been drinking heavily for only 5 months, decided to give up and died 2 days later......anyone else heard something similar?

    Welcome

The cases of people dying through withdrawal are few and far between. If you were seriously physically addicted (2 bottles of spirits a day etc) then you'd be at risk, but then you wouldn't be quitting on an internet forum.

The biggest danger is people thinking that withdrawal will kill them, and thus not giving up and drinking themselves to an early grave.

I was worried that my life would be no fun any more without alcohol. That was my biggest fear. I would lose friends, parties would be rubbish, I would be ostracised.
I couldn't have been more wrong.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I just wanted to 'celebrate' 2 nights in a row not drinking - for the first time in 6 months

welcomewagon.gif and good news :). Good luck with your AF journey. Do you want to join the April challenge? You just have to "pledge" a number of days that you want to be AF this month...

Shaggy - I'm not ever going to drink again - there's no way I would go back to that horrible horrible place. So I'm not going to worry you with the targets anymore. But thankyou a million times over for running it - it was one of the biggest things which pulled me through the first month of giving up :)
    thankyou.

You've done fab crazymum :) - just make sure you pop back every now and again with all your news......:T

    Morning all!

Crazymum - you're sounding so positive, its lovely to hear!:T

Melg1973 - welcome to the forum. As our lovely graeme says, cases like that are very rare, and I would imagine you would have to be drinking huge amounts for withdrawl to affect you that way. When I'm at my worst I can put away two bottles of wine, no problem. When I put a halt to it, my worst symptoms are overactive dreams and a real hunger for sugary things! Obviously, if you are worried then speak to your Doctor who will mst likely set your mind at rest. Anyway, what I really wanted to say (and rambled on a bit!) is welcome and good luck!!

    Shaggy - 2 days please!

Had a lovely time looking round Highgrove Gardens yesterday. Dad hand Piglet for the afternoon. We came home to find Piglet nursing a swan egg by the radiator!! Dad said they found it by a local lake. Not in a nest and obviously abandoned. Piglet now has it in his head it could hatch:eek: so he is very busy keeping it warm!! That child really needs a pet!:rotfl:

Anyways, better mooch on. Day off work today :T

    Miss P
    xx
