I put my mushrooms in the oven. If you dont want them to shrivel just peel them, and put them whole into a small bowl of water (yes they will float). No fat or oils needed, and they won't be hard when you slice them. Cook for about 10 mins.
I put my turkey rashers into the oven to cook for 15 minutes too. Again, no oil needed, and they are a healthy alternative to bacon.
Of course when I do have bacon I make sure on turning the rashers that the fat that comes off the bacon is drained off the plate into a small cup so its not cooking in its own juice. With turkey rashers there isnt that problem I find.0 -

Thanks for that, Theatregirl... Using your method, I'll be able to enjoy a mushroom sandwich again !!! I've never tried Turkey Rashers, but the next time I am at the supermarket, I'll look out for them... Thanks for the photo....

Cool, let me know how you get on!
I tried the turkey rashers after trying the Quorn version of bacon - ew. So much like cardboard, it was amazing (and disgusting)!
The turkey rashers were recommended to me by my dietitian at the time, and also they are a staple in all the Rosemary Conley books/magazines I've read, particularly her Inch Loss Diet plan book which is on my bookshelf.
Impressive when you think 2 turkey rashers are about 60cals, and 2 bacon rashers in comparision are 150+ cals!
Btw, in our local Tesco they keep the turkey rashers on the bottom shelf of the fresh meat aisle, right by the bacon and non-frozen sausages. Just so you know where to look.
They also do two different versions, the one above in the picture but also the original version too:
Not quite the caramelised biscuits I'm always rambling on about. :rotfl:0 -
Oh dear, my first day of trying to get back on the wagon didn't go TOO well. There are various valid excuses I could give but really, I just need to get my bum in gear! So I will write down my food diary to shame myself into doing better today...
B - potato salad, a coconut milk yogurt, tea
L - houmous and roasted veg sandwich (300 cals)
S - potato salad (sensing a theme?! This is why I can't keep leftovers!)
S - tea and too many mini oat biscuits
D - smaller than usual portion of pasta bolognaise, salad, one small glass of red wine, 1 square of dark chocolate
Were it not for the munching of the leftover potato salad and the oat biscuits at a low point in the afternoon (I had a migraine and felt I needed some sugar. Still, there was fruit in the house so I had no excuse...) it would have been an ok day.
Onwards and upwards today! Going to be doing a lot of gardening too so getting a bit of exercise. My broken foot is loads better but still not good enough to do any walking/jogging or proper exercise really. I will wait until I get the go-ahead from the fracture clinic before attempting anything like that.
Hope everyone else is doing well and congratulations on the losses reported over the weekend!0 -
Morning all
Dear dog 's got his body clock all over the place and thought 6.10am was a good time to get up. When he gets an idea into his head there's no stopping him! So have got first load of laundry out, watered the lawn with grey water (just seen the weather forecast, could be a bit of a wasted effort
), and changed the bed. Exercise for the day completed!
Yesterday-
B - spicy, fruity porridge, ss milk
L - egg salad, banana and peachy yogurt with DM
D - sausage(!) salad
S - fruit
E - cleared out some cupboards for DM. Did some gardening when I got home
Today -
F&F, ss milk
rest tba as out car hunting with DD so might grab a bite to eat while we're out
Hope the sun shines where you are0 -

I'm going to look out for these theatregirl, I've never tried them before.
I surprised myself yesterday...first of all I forgot to have lunch...what??? how did that happen???...too many small jobs to do running around after other members of the family. I was in the supermarket (shopping for other people!) and in the past I would have bought a bar of chocolate to keep me going...the surprise was, I looked at all the bars on the shelf and thought "don't really fancy those". It's an odd feeling...losing the comfort of chocolate as a treat is like losing a friend :rotfl:
That's not to say I left with nothing and my halo intact...I bought a packet of opal fruits (that's starburst for you young uns) to eat in the car in between all the rushing around.
(officeguru...never mind mens skill at parking and turning and driving with one hand - can they unwrap sticky sweeties and drive through the centre of town at the same time? :rotfl:)
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
Awesome, I am corrupting people with the turkey rashers now. I'm on a roll, what with that and the caramelised biscuits :rotfl:
I presume then that every time I posted "turkey rashers, mushrooms, tomato" on my mealplan you guys thought I was pigging out, right?
Actually a breakfast comprising 2 turkey rashers, 2 mushrooms and 1 large cooked tomato comes in around the 130cal mark. (estimating 25 cals for each mushroom and 30 for the tomato). If you add on 2 small slices ww bread that 50cal a slice so still only 230cals for a whole meal.
Not too shabby I reckon. But I havent eaten breakfast today - like you ellie, I forgot to....had to go out and do some stuff for DM this morning at the shops.....now debating what to have for lunch...hmmm...0 -
Hi Theatregirl.... I am glad I mentioned your little treats !!! That's two of us benefiting from your post.. I'll go for the smoked ones .... I like smoked....:T:
Hi Ellie99 .... You have a good point about the sticky sweets :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Maybe I should stop beating myself up about how I can't do this and that in the car...
It's just that I could divorce him if I could manage the roundabouts with the traffic lights and the slip roads down onto dual carriage ways and the like !!!! That's the little obstacles I have to manage to visit my family.... Parking the car is a bit difficult toooooooo...
Last year, I decided to take driving lessons to try and help me with the parking and reversing... I think I managed fine, but I never got the car for another 9 months... so I have forgotten what I have been shown... (It rained every day last year so he wouldn't take his superfast 2-wheeled machine to work instead of the car)
Hi Sparrer .... You wouldn't believe it.... It could be classed as spooky...I mowed the lawn before I stripped the beds... Hung out the washing.... watered all my pots... saw to the cats... We almost had an identical morning
Talking about the betterhalf.... Yesterday, I spent all morning cooking.... I had a load of potatoes to use up as they were starting to sprout (If you put an apple in beside them it helps to stop that happening... but halfwit ate the last apple )
Anyway, I boiled up a large pot of potatoes... I put half through the ricer, mixed it with some flour and salt, and made gnocchi... Froze a whole tray full.... I then took a chicken out of the fridge, deboned it (except for the legs) stuffed it with gammon and boiled eggs, and then sewed it back up again... I planned to give my husband the legs and then cut the body up for cold meat the next day... I then peeled some sweet potatoes for him and mixed up a bbq sauce to put over them.. To cut a long story short, I was on the phone sorting out his insurance, when he came back from his work. I couldn't put the phone down... so he went into the kitchen... He turned up the oven  and succeeded in burning the sweet potatoes as I had planned to stir the bbq sauce through them... and then he cut the chicken into 4 with a pair of kitchen scissors  Why do I bother ?????? He then went into the freezer and tipped the tray up that I had all the gnocchi on.... Now you might understand why I want to learn to go down a slip road or drive in difficult situations...
Anyway, everyone have a good day.... while I play on my computer for a change....0 -
