Nice work Ragz!
I still have some wraps this week, leftover from last week so I'm making egg and cheese breakfast wraps for breakfast this week. Since OH likes his wheatabix, I'll be giving him hardboiled with his lunch on the days we're having leftover soup or similar. We've also both got a week's ration of peanuts for snacks, and since we're dinner guests and using a freezer meal this week for another meal I spent a bit more on the meals we are having at home to get a bit more meat in. It isn't perfect, but I think if we slowly up our protein some of our portion sizes might go down.
Next week I'll check out the greek yoghurt. I might see if I can find some low carb/high protein muesli/granonla recipes online to make up for the yoghurt. If I find anything I can make reasonably cheaply I'll post here.0 -
So, so excited
I have to share...DD and I went 'window' shopping today and I tried on a pair of size 14 cotton summer trousers with a structured waist, ie zip & button. They fitted so well I bought 3 pairs in different colours
. May not sound much but it's the first time in n years I didn't have to buy a pair with an elasticated waist! Didn't think it would ever be possible so a very happy sparrer this evening :j, really big thanks ragz and everyone for the amazing support you give here :T
There will be a bag of trousers from my wardrobe heading for the cs very shortly!0 -
Ragz, that's good advice, definitely something to bear in mind when meal planning.
That's great news sparrer, I'd so love to fit into fitted size 14s.Well done you! :T :T :T

:T:T:T:T:T Well Done Sparrer,
I had been avoiding the clothes shops but had a few minutes to kill today and spied an “all in one” or what I would call it a “cat suit” but then again I’m the right side of 50 with a very young outlook!! Either that or I just want to re-live the 70's
Going back tomorrow to try it on, because I’ve been really good on my budgets and got my tax rebate a month sooner than expected.
Ragz – really appreciate the good news regarding protein, I frequently have yoghurt & fruit for breakfast, some mornings I just can’t go for anything heavy like porridge/toast/cereal but I do enjoy my eggs some days.
Today has been
B – Fruit & yoghurt
L – Soup & toast
D – Sausages, mashed turnips, broccoli & green beans.
S = Plums, Kiwi, small handful hazelnuts.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61
July - Grocery spends = £119.54
Aug - Grocery spends = £42.190 -
Ragz that's good news about the yoghurt. I often have it with banana, honey and toasted mixed nuts to increase the protein a bit more.
Protein is in all sorts of things that you don't expect it to be. eg, I usually add a portion of peas to a stir fry. I think sometimes we think of food as either 'protein' or 'carbs' when in fact many foods contain both.
I have just started a new form of exercise, at the grand old age of 52 I now own my 1st ever bike [thanks to my lovely son and daughter in law], I can't really ride it properly yet but I am taking it out tomorrow for more practice. I am determined to be going out on proper bike rides soon.
It's great to hear how some of you are enjoying clothes shopping again, I am holding off for a few weeks till the shops get more in. Really looking forward to it, for the 1st time for about 14 years [if I remember correctly] .0 -
If you're really craving these things then I agree with Ragz, it sounds as if you're addicted. My personal experience is that the cravings go disappear immediately when I go low carb - leaving just the habit and the resulting problem of what do you do instead? Knitting is really good for keeping your hands occupied LOL
If you decide to give it a try you need to understand that it's a completely different way of thinking about food and your body can take a few days to adjust, you need to make sure you drink enough, and increase your salt intake to allow your body to do it easily! Understanding the science behind it can really help.
Yes I am just an ADDICT ! the problem being that after my sweet tooth CARBS are my next downfall - I just love bread ! Are you suggesting that I try and cut out both ? Go cold turkey? Really tried to be good today -
2rds wholmeal toast for breckie
Jacket Potatoe with bolognaise for lunch
WW chicken curry and rice for tea
Felt full throughout the day mouth just constantly watering for something sweet !0 -
Stokelady, I can only rely my experience, but I wouldn't suggest that you go "cold turkey" on both your sugar and carbs because you will feel totally deprived and give up too easily.
I gave up sugar in my tea/coffee by trying it without and didn't like it because it tasted too milky, then tried it without milk & sugar but loads weaker and I mean weak (for tea it was so weak you could see the bottom of the mug/cup) and that was something I acquired a taste for. I also changed the teabags I used and started drinking "Lady Grey" which has a citrus/floral tang to it so you really don't want milk in it but you may want to add a slice of lemon.
For Carbs I increased the amount of vegetables/salad on my plate and reduced the amount of rice/pasta/potatoes/etc but I think this is something you may want to do gradually. I still sometimes take a slice of crusty bread/toast with my meal but end up breaking it into very small pieces to make sure it keeps me going throughout the meal.
My weak point was crisps/nuts but I have managed to kick that and just don't buy them any more so knowing they are not there doesn't bother me.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

Low carb is certainly something I wouldn't recommend diving in to with no understanding. But different people cope in different ways. Personally I can't 'cut down' because it feels as if the craving is in every single cell of my body, it's why I can't cope on low fat, high carb diets, I just get ravenous and carbs are the only thing I can think about. If I followed Need2bthrifty's advice I'd fail big style, but others who don't get 'the hunger' might well be more successful. BUT... I can cut them out completely and know that the physical cravings will be gone pretty much overnight. The key is understanding how it works and the reasons for the 'side-effects', which are the main cause of people giving up, and giving the body what it needs so that these don't occur: water, salt, fat and protein. After that it's a matter of developing new habits, a much easier task when you have an incentive such as diabetes and can see the weight falling off without ever having to feel 'the hunger'

morning all
apologies I've been awol for a few days, been suffering with acid reflux, so not really eating much, or sleeping for that matter! Went to gp yesterday and got some medication, and it's gone overnight! Feeling so much better this morning for a full nights sleep. Throat still sore and irritated, but otherwise feel back to normal.
Today:
Breakfast: fruit corner, 20g granola, dried apricots, satsumas
Lunch: sandwich from canteen, apple, pear, satsumas
Dinner: quiche, cous cous and potatoes, all leftover from mother's day lunch at home
Snack: 2 biscuits, glass of SS milk
thought I was being organised by weighing out my granola and apricots last night, but the granola went all soggy, ick!Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Hi all
Not been on this thread for a while, had a bit where i started putting weight back on again and have been doing slimming world for the past 3 weeks and have lost 8lbs in total
Just wondering if anyone thinks i am eating too much fruit? I have never been one for fruit in the past, i was always more veggies type of person. Since i started SW i realised that i would have to at least make an attempt at eating fruit so bought some blueberries and grapes and froze them.
To date i have only eaten them semi frozen but enjoyed them so much i decided to buy some raspberries too and enjoyed these too.
I have been eating apples, pineapples, the frozen berries and grapes and kiwi a lot in the last 3 weeks and am worrying that i am eating too much on a daily basis. For example i tend to have around 10 grapes ( i should say that i dont actually count them out, its an estimation)blueberries, raspberries , some fresh pineapple (normally around 10 chunks ) and also sometimes an apple or a kiwi fruit? Is this too much? am i worrying about nothing?
