I was reading something in the paper today about people dieting and one woman used to be "size 14 and had to shop in Marks and Spencer". I just recently bought a size 14 dress from the M & S sale and I was so pleased with myself but now it feels like nothing
I don't see that one? Most high street clothes shops stock 14, 18 and up you have problems!Must use my stash up!0 -
I can't wait to be a size 14 Polly, I too will be so proud when I can get into that size
I know what you mean though, I see posts on other websites with comments how huge they were at my first goal weight, made me a bit despondent, but hey I feel great now being a size 18 compared to where I was a few months ago.0 -

Hello, everyone I've been asked, ever so nicely, so shiny new thread for you all
Quote:
As some of you know there's been some discussion lately on how to accomodate weight loss diets on the board. It was decided that the daily isn't the place for campaigns of any sort and that there was a very good weight loss thread on the I wanna board which would offer excellent support to anyone wishing to join.
The board guides have talked about this and we'd like to accomodate a weight loss campaign the OLD STYLE way here. However, in order for it to fit with the board, it should be about scratch cooking and healthy eating, NOT about where to get low calorie/fat ready meals cheaply or fad diets.
So, here it is. The Lose Weight the Old Style Way thread. This thread is for support in losing weight but in order to keep it true to the board - which is about money saving the old style way, there are going to be some posting guidelines.
Important. Please read:
The thread should be about healthy, Old Style eating. That means recipes and meal plans, support and encouragement and healthy eating. What shouldn't be accomodated here is if the thread goes off topic and covers ready meals, fad diets and weight loss clubs. There is a good thread that covers all that on the 'I wanna' board. So if the thread becomes an extention of that, we will have to close it and ask people to join in there instead.
Enjoy, and good luckMust use my stash up!0 -
Hello all.
I have been reading this thread and would like to ask, how is this 'weight loss the old style way', please? I didn't think things like low carbs was old style - is it counting calories or eating old style meals, or just a weight loss chat thread where people lose weight however they choose?
Apologies for all the questions, haven't read all of this as it's too long.Sorry ab i think that may of been my fault asking about carbs.
Ive just looked through the thread and seen all your yummy meals. I now have some ideas for dinners and will do some batch cooking. I will get my eating under control. thanks everyone for the inspiration. xNot specifically, magical. Other people mention low carbing as well and I wouldn't associate it with old style weight-loss, so curious as to how this works, that's all.
Nothing to apologise for magical, it's a normal question on any diet-type board and you were just trying to get your head round the carb issue.
ab.da although the title is Weight Loss the Old Style Way it's normal to ask if others have info on a variety of weight-related subjects, many of us have run the gamut of both down to earth and airy fairy methods. There are boards specific to certain types of diet which we can point people in the direction of if they're interested in or ask about those.
re carbs, cutting bread, cakes, pastry, potato etc., is a long-known method of losing weight, one of the original ways. I and some others on here have/do use it today. (Unless I get a bread craving of course!)
B - spicy fruity porridge, 1/2 chopped banana, Greek style ff yogurt
D - Veg pie with topped with crispy sliced potato. Pear
T - curried parsnip soup, 2 crackerbread. Slice Stolen
S - satsuma, apple, handful mixed nuts
E - on hold til after next weeks endoscopy, desparately need to find out what's wrong now as I'm sleeping 70% of my day which is horrid, exhausting(!) and frustrating. Other than that everything in the garden is rosy
Have a good rest of the day0 -

Pollybear congrats on your M&S purchase. You've invested in a well-made, good quality product that is going to last well and perhaps even be a classic which you'll be able to wear for years to come. I've got M&S dresses and skirts I bought years ago and still wear. I used to be a size 18/20 and now hover between 12 and 14 partly because M&S cut generously and partly depends on the style of the garment. And don't believe everything you read in the paper0 -

I think it's because, to me, size 14 is perfectly all right but these articles make it sound as though that is huge and you must lose lots of weight.
I expect I just need to stop reading these articles.....0 -
ahh pollybear. Its sounds as if the lady was saying that m &s were the only shop to accomodate her size, which sounds very bad.
I shop in m&s aswell, mainly because the clothes are well made and fit normal women and not a stick insect.:DComping for christmas xThankyou to all posters0 -

Do you mind if i ask if you have any medical complications from being overweight? The only reason i ask if that you mention seeing the doctor and other medical people in regards to your weight losss?
Hi there yes ,basically I had breast cancer in 2007, (luckily discovered via a mammogram ) and had chemo and r/therapy plus a mastecomy.I got the all clear in June of this year so I no longer need any anti-cancer drugs anymore :j:j
I saw my consultant when he gave me the good news and he said 'Right now thats out of the way do you want to have reconstructive surgery?' .
I was not sure as I wanted it, but thought perhaps at my age I was a bit daft wanting to be like my old self again. We had a long talk ,bless him, and he said its not a problem its something that will make me feel better about myself and its true I want to be able not to have to wear the awful prosthetics boob and the horrible bra's they come in (think Boadiccia's breast plates:))
So I had all the tests and various pokes and prods then had to go back to see him at the beginning of September. He is happy to do the op. but only if I lose some weight as I was very overweight (No excuses I ate comfort food to cheer myself up when going through the treatment and didn't exercise,I was far too worn out)
He said if I lose the weight I will be ok for the op. as being overweight means you can actually snuff it on the table. Having fought to survive this dreadful disease I was determined to put my life back together and be 'normal' again. When you only have one breast its difficult to buy clothes that fit properly and you tend to wear big baggy stuff to hide your shape. He told me that the oldest lady he had done reconstructive surgery on was 86 so I didn't feel quite so bad:)
My youngest DD said she too would diet to help keep me on track as she too had piled on the lbs after having five children in 9 years.I am so proud of her as she has like me stuck to it and I can see it melting off of her.I started out in the beginning of September at 18st4lbs I am now 16st 5lbs and still losing I want to acheive around 13 stone at least .being only 5ft 4" means I looked like a weeblewhich isn't a great look at any age :rotfl:
So fingers crossed I will get my goal weight and my new boob before this time next year .
I just want to be able to go into a shop and be able to say Oh that looks nice and try it on and not feel uncomfortable. When I had a big turn out of my 'big clothes' I said to DD thats it we are never buying stuff from Evans again:D
So I really do have a fairly good reason for losing all that weight It will make me fitter and healthier and a better shape as well.
I am no longer carting that almost two stones around on my back and I'm feeling so much better for it, now to get rid of another three and a bit.
:j:j:j0 -
JackiO that's such an inspirational story. I'm so glad to hear you got the all clear, and that it has given you the determination to lose the weight. And I'm glad your daughter is supporting you through it too!
Well done on losing what you have so far too!0 -
Can I report -1 please
The scales were jumping between STS and -1 depending on where I put them on the bathroom floor, but in the end they did -1 three times in a row in three different places so I went with that. Also I weighed yesterday morning and it was -1 too, and I definitely haven't eaten anything to gain 1lb overnight (in fact, I ate very little yesterday, and went on the treadmill).
Good luck everyone and as usual thanks for keeping track of us all KnitWitch!0
