Basketcase: yeah, books the size of housebricks need to have a fast turnround, especially in our flat:D That reminds me, due to previous decluttering, it was really easy to find a space to hide some:beer: on 1st January when Him Indoors stopped drinking for 6 weeks. The only stuff not hidden is the Baileys (still in the fridge)which I need to crack on and finish. What a chore, eh?:D
Reading AND drinking as decluttering tools... I am now seriously impressed. :T
Have you thought of becoming a professional decluttering guru? I'd buy the book. And immediately put it into practice! :rotfl:A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

Major progress here as DH has started to sort out the Room of Doom (our extension) - he's even said I can put a couple of cardboard boxes in recycling  *thud*! He's got all the plastic milk lids he was saving (don't ask why) and is taking them into work for someone who does something with them; again don't ask me what. I got rid of some old poster paint which had been left open and dried and a few little tubs of again dried up paint. I did ask if we could get rid of the National Trust books from 1998 - 2011 as I think that's sensible but no, we can't do that as he likes to collect them
.
I also paired up some socks for us and put 15 odd socks in the clothes recyling bag for the material to be recycled. All steady progress methinks.

What can I call a self help book of that nature?

It is called "No more clutter: how to clear your space and free your life" by Sue Kay. V interesting as it goes into great detail about the psychology of hoarding, looking at different types such as the frugal hoarder the trophy hoarder etc as well as the practicalities of how to go about decluttering your place.:rotfl:

31. Bag od cardboard/plastic - recycling bin
32. 2x bags of mixed recycling - dump (what do you call your local recycling centre?)
33. bag of carp - bin
34. 7x dinner plates (chipped, worn, knackered) -rubble bin at dump
35. cracked wooden chopping board aka scientific experiment to see how much bacteria can be bred in one place - bio fuel bin at dump.
Not bad....going to take some bags of rabbit bedding and poo to the allotment compost in a min. This isn't in the house but in bags in thethe garden. I'm going to count clutter that comes out of the garden too if you don't mind.
Have a good day all.
Has ANYONE got a fool proof way of NOT getting odd socks?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Keep meaning to ask, is that lovely cat on your avatar yours?
Haven't done a lot today, felt even more blah than yesterday.
Ha. Thanks Byatt, yes the 'ovely cat' is mine. It was she looked like in August 2010. She is now an enormously huge British shorthair who's on a diet to try and lose some weight! I've never had a cat grow so fast as her and I've never had to deal with an obese cat either! So it's a learning curve! (She weighs just over a stone...!)0 -

36. Pine sideboard - a very lovely ebayer came to collect yesterday
37. A pine chest of drawers - very lovely ebayer came to collect this morning
38. A large piece of left over carpet underlay - given to ebayer to put under chest of drawers in the van
39. Half a recycling bin of paper (not kidding, and it's a wheelie bin) - spent yesterday doing half of my self-assessment, so needed to go through the boxes anyway. Curse of having three employers and being self employed. Mainly envelopes and stupid leaflets - why OH doesn't ditch them when they come in, I'll never know. Buckets of work stuff that needed to be destroyed too.
40. A pair of Doc Martens I bought, because they were wonderful. but couldn't wear them as they are the wrong shape for me(ebay)
41. A set of motorcycle handlebar ratchet straps - no longer have the bike, no need to keep these (ebay)
42. Knackered pair of motorcycle boots - badly scuffed from one of many pavement kissing incidents (bin)
I also filed all the house purchase stuff and made a new folder for all the building regs compliance certificates and minor electrical works certificates. As the house was a repo we bought it, we need to keep a very solid paper trail of every bit of work we do on it as it has no history prior to us moving in.
The kitchen is coming out next week; we have family help to gut it as it's going right back to floorboards and brick. We will take the units out tomorrow though - as we have a hire car so can take some stuff to the tip. That's quite an epic declutter
More ebay things finishing today/tomorrow:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -

That is just over the last few days. That does not included more bags of shredding few days ago.
I have even started my own little diary every day with items in, out, pending and what money I have spent. Only be going a few days. So we shall see how long I keep it up.
On wards and up wards.

Ditch 100 in January Challenge
49. Used stamps, in an envelope ready to send to charity
50. 1x Old vinyl, binned
51. Bag of misc rubbish, binned
52. Lots of paperwork shredded

Done more tidying, but not really parted with much. I've just been organising things into folders and making the place look generally neater.0 -

Has ANYONE got a fool proof way of NOT getting odd socks?
No but I try and make it easier by making everyone pair up (by turning the top over) their socks before putting them into the washing bin. Then pairs should go through the wash together , should come out together and get put on the airer together. Before I was wasting huge amounts to time (and cluttering up my dressing table) with odd socks waiting for their partner to make it through the wash.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Their=belonging to them, There=over there
