Thanks Suzeesu - and how lucky you are living on the Isle of Wight, I love it there. I shall give you a wave from across the water tomorrow!

I will be the one atop the Needles lighthouse, draped in an IOW flag with a spotlight illuminating my display...:rotfl: (think yourself lucky if its still foggy:rotfl:)
Loopychris; Still got far too much fabric, but I am very reluctant to part with any of it. Would help if I made something out of it all, but I don't get the time to sit and sew for days on end!

I know the feeling! :( Whenever I take a piece of fabric out it is days before I can get to working on it. As I have nowhere, other than a kitchen counter for my machine, its a right performance!

    Morning

Bit of a quieter weekend so not that much decluttering done but anything out is good isn't it? The good news is the areas that have been decluttered are staying that way which has surprised me :-).

    Out with:

56 decluttered my work bag :j
    57 cracked mousemat
    58 rock hard nail polish
    59 dried mascara
60 shredded old cheque book from old account
61 old plastic cheque book covers
    62 moulting blusher brush

Need to up the rate of sorting things out to hit the target. Busy week this week though with my birthday looming plus a few deadlines on projects.

    Keep slinging everyone :-)

    Morning everyone,

    Jarus Good luck.

Not a lot done yesterday as I spent the day in town with DD1 and DD2 (we only bought essentials).

Hope to get going again today as I have a day mainly at home.

I did finish 2 lots of my marking, does this count as decluttering?

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • I threw away 15 bin bags of stuff on Friday - started doing 1 x 15 minute quick 'grab and throw session' in the utility and got so carried away I spent 4 hours gutting it, moving furniture and white goods and generally cleaning. It looks great though :)

Threw away 3 bin bags at mums at the weekend so she was pleased I was decluttering there too.

    Evening all,

Not much done today, infact im going to make an effort to clear my desk so i can sew tonight if the kids go to sleep well :) Im planning on making some bags to store the kids toys/crafts out of the way. Ive also got a few cushion covers to make too :) Not sure how much ill get done though.

Really want to go through my bedroom again though, just dont know if i can be bothered today :o Might just tackle the breakfast bar whilst i start dinner. Im quite chilly today (got a scarf on inside!) so its not making me want to get up away from the laptop even though i know ill be warmer doing something active!!

    Hi everyone

Thanks silentsister and rumblytum for your advice and to other for there welcomes.

i started with one carrier bag in my bedroom last night and have decluttered/filed and shredded a few bits last night and tonight.

I have a big filing cabinet that is full of papers already and also when thing come into the house I never file them immediately. I am a great one for making lists and then these lists notes add to my paperwork pile!!!
I am the same with wool/ cross stitch /quilting materials and the number of books (200+)that i have in the attic waiting to be read.

The one thing I have been really good at over the years is getting rid of clothes that I don't wear, so my wardrobe clothes wise is fairly free of clothes clutter. I am the same with the children's clothes now that they have got older, although I have to confess there are cases of baby clothes lurking in the attic.

As they say baby steps, a few bits of paper a day will keep my clutter at bay!!!! (well eventually although it could take months, hopefully not years).

Night, thanks everyone for your support and keep up the decluttering

    Hi!

Am new to this forum, or this thread, specifically (it's the reason why i joined!!:T), so be gentle.

Firstly- a bit about my decluttering.
We (3 person HH) wouldn't consider ourselves full-on hoarders like what you see on telly, i can see my floor, i can close doors properly (though one of our bedroom door has so much clothes hanging on it is dragging on the carpet, suppose it keeps the draft out)
But there is some clutter that is annoying to the eye. You find places for it, but it accumulates again.

    How I roll:
    • I probably won't do that 'numbering' thing that some of you like to do, but i will list key chuckouts, including amusing ones.
    • I like recycling and ebay, but dont' bother with charity shop as they have too much on their hands to start with (their bins are full of people's stuff that has been given in)
    • I have seen freecycle, but looks daunting so won't bother.
    • So what i do is- "churning" (moving hoarding items from one surface/drawer/room to another :rotfl:)
    • Recycling/Grey bin (general waste)
    • Ebay.
    • Recycling centre
    • We do have a local charity clothes thing where they give you 60p per kilo for clothes. Any below-ebay-standard clothes and shoes get dumped there. I.e. Well worn and unbranded clothes/shoes.

So,here's a few key chuckouts (or half-chuckouts i.e. planning to recycle/give but never got round to it), of the past 2 months (Aug/Sept)

An old drill and lawnmower (or 'weedhacker' as some may say)
Motors blown, but don't want to landfill so they are just stood at the side garden, waiting to go to the tip. Regretabbly, i salvaged the long wire off the grass trimmer for future electrical project.

    Last tip-trip (Aug '12):
    An old microwave, electronic section.
A bag of solidified cement. Was stood outside the shed for months, broke it up, dumped it in the hardcore/rubble section.
Various pieces of wood, burned. I like backyard burning.
    All from the shed.

Also from the shed, and one major achievement of 'Summer' 2012- A wasps' nest, complete with wasps- Bin. Did get stung, though.

That's a long story. But yes, those wasps were annoying me and visitors, no chances of barbeques, so we lit a torch to deter them, armed ourselves with flykiller sprays and went on a mission. They were living in a cardboard box. We carefully dumped it into a black bag and threw it in the grey bin, then put a brick on it. We got stung in that stage.
Then for a while we sprayed and knocked-down the ones who were 'coming back' to the now nonexistent nest.

Now, what to do with the 100+ wasps that were in the bin?
We were really afraid of opening it, so drilled a tiny hole in the top and patiently poured water in from a pipe to drown them. After 30 mins, we opened it. The water wasn't even halfway
The bag, though, landed upside down so we could see the wasps crawling inside, but the opening was face down. If it had burst, then expect a big black cloud coming out. We poured water in at full blast, stirred the bin, left it and poured the water out. Swept up all the dead wasps, nests, eggs and box, binbagged and off to tip.
Phew. Only consequenses were getting stung. The only items that got chucked were the half-eaten (literally, by the wasps) box, and the charred remains of some fabric that our torch had set on fire! We used a biscuit tin to put it out!
How does that affect decluttering? Well, if they remained in the shed, then there would be no way that i would be able to declutter the shed without being stung. And to be honest, wasps are clutter in the first place!
Chuck it out... No, wait, we can fix it. No, it's useful. Aww, it's too good to throw away. Keep it as a memory. Put it to one side, I'll ebay it. No, it'll come in handy one day. No, don't throw it, if you ____, then you can use it as a _____. Don't put it in the bin, the tip has a special section for those.

Bonfire night coming soon. Hoping to burn loads of branches which are too thick for the brown (garden waste) bin. Hopefully they will be dry enough to burn.

    Today:
    Few papers, chucked and shredded
Some items of clothes into the 'weighing' bag.

    Last week:
Quite a few ebay shoes, posted (about 5-8 items)
So i have moved onto kids clothes, unworn ones.
Ebay buyers left feedback, got my first yellow star and rating of 10!!!

  • Oh dear,I've got a lot of catching up to do to reach my target.I just haven't had the time recently. And the sitting room table is piling up with paperwork again...

Just a few meagre items to add:

21 -22 two bank cards (expired)
    23 one fridge magnet

Hoping to add to this later on today.:o

Belated greetings to JARUS and hi and welcome also to tvbox!:hello:
