Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

Hi
I have just discovered I have a floor in my home and would love to see if it goes the whole way through! With 4 kids, the house is a tip. Not dirty, but cluttered chaos.
I would love to join in the challenge but havent a clue what you are doing and despite my best intentions, I cant find the key posts that explain it.
Is it a target to remove 100 things from your home each month? So it could be ebay, charity, freecycle, tip, recycling etc..? What counts towards your target? For example if you cleared out a drawer and threw away 5 tshirts, is that one thing or 5?

Hi, and welcome to the thread, and you're not being a pain!
A lot of us aim for 100 items a month, but you can choose your own target, it's not a competition or a race. Personally I have got rid of over 1,000 items this year, most of them before I even came on this thread!
You can dispose of them in any way you like; I have got rid of my clutter in all those you mention, except e-bay. Can't be bothered with all the listing, weighing, posting etc. but lots of people on here do e-bay and make some money back.
I personally count things in 'lumps' - e.g. 12 magazines would count as 1 item but again it's your personal choice. If you've tons of stuff to get rid of you could count like stuff as one item. I'm now getting close to the stage where there's not much left to declutter, so I will probably count 5 items of clothing as 5 gone and not 1 now.
Good luck with your decluttering: declutter one thing at a time, get them gone entirely from the house asap, Keep Calm and Carry On Decluttering!Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Hello and welcome to the gang!
Ditto what loopychriss said.
You will find a lovely group here, they certainly made me feel very welcome when I joined back in July. I swear my house has risen by about two feet since being on here.
Have fun!!:)Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

Hi and welcome
It's really up to you to choose your goal or just count items as you go along,if you want.I usually start off with a target of 50 or 100.I tend to count items individually,so 5 t-shirts would be five items and not one.
Happy decluttering!0 -
Good morning all, and especially to moneymakestheworldgoround. It is certainly helpful to chat to others whilst doing the decluttering and I find people so encouraging. Because we all understand what clutter is, we can appreciate how hard it is to deal with, and what a relief when we make inroads. When progress is small, we need even more encouragement, so we put our achievements - big or small - on here and know that others will understand what it's costing us to get our homes straight.
This morning I have managed to clear a small drawer completely (filled it now with socks which had been crammed elsewhere) and got rid of:
20 scarves - cs
1 shawl still in box - cs
3 books - recycling0 -

Welcome to the board
I've just got back from another trip to the tip with a car full of stuff. I'm really starting to get there finally after nearly a year of decluttering, I have kind of revamped my hallway, kitchen and lounge as there is a lot less rubbish there, hopefully she will like it and realise a lot more stuff has to go! It is getting much easier to get rid of stuff now... I think a lot of this stuff I've been trying to sell on eBay is going in the charity shop bag as fed up of trying to sell it0 -
19 I threw out 4 big cardboard boxes that I was saving - what on earth for I have no idea!!

My mum saves cardboard boxes too, I have no idea why we have never used them. I found boxes for things we haven't had for years! She also has a million plastic storage boxes too.0 -
Afternoon.
Not done much over the weekend, got 4 things to post out that ive sold though. Got more stuff in though, had a surprise baby shower this weekend so ive got loads of baby stuff LOL bought a runner for the kitchen for mucky dog paw prints with all the bad weather, a door stop and some more tupperware (Husband is obsessed), i just threw a load out that didnt have lids but oh well.
Listed 25 things on Ebay this weekend though so hopefully some more will go by next week!
Must try and tidy up the office, its looking like a dumping ground!!
