If you haven't used/needed them for two years, why are you keeping stuff?

Spent the morning doing jobs I'd put off for ages, so not much done, but loads of things sorted and tidied.

    57. Medical advice paper from last holiday - shredded
    58. About 7 odd socks - fabric recycling bag
    59. Pair of holey socks - fabric recycling bag
    60. Loads of 'stuff' from sewing bag - bin
    61. Old teatowel - fabric recycling
    62. Black and Decker drill - daughter's boyfriend
    63. Plastic 35mm film container - going to homeless shelter - they decant shampoo into them to give out to people
    64. Face wipes - homeless shelter
    65. Moisturiser - homeless shelter
    66. Pair of sandals - charity shop
    67. Pair of shoes - charity shop
    68. 13 items of clothing - homeless shelter
    69. 1 sun hat - charity shop
    70. 1 pair new pyjamas never worn (wrong size) - daughter

Didn't think I'd done much today, but it soon mounts up. Can't see a big visible difference as a lot of things were hidden in cupboards and drawers, but it's nice to know that they're emptier (making room for more stuff..... NO!!!!).

Still got loads to do I think, I'm aiming for a totally minimalist look. The hardest task will be sorting out my hundreds of yards of fabric stashed away....

Despite decluttering about two and half years ago I'm needing to do it all again ! So far we've taken out the 'walk in pantry' (really was a hidey hole for ''stuff'') and got rid of most of it -had new kitchen fitted so now we've got 'organised stuff'.
I have a cleaner from ageuk who's been a gem and helped me sort out storage boxes from computer room so they're now upstairs ontop of the wardrobe in the spare room and labelled so I know whats in them. Half of it is stuff that was mum or dads that I can't bear to part with.
Need to motivate OH to go through his vynls and CDs so we can thoroughly clear the lounge. Desperately needs a new carpet and at the minute would be a nightmare for fitters. Lots of small bits of furniture that I don't like/need anymore (least I won't once OH's sorted his stuff out). Getting there but its a slow process.
Garage is full to overflowing since we knocked down an old shed that was full of ''stuff'' plus had downstairs loo put in so stuff from there is now in the garage (pots of paint, tools, etc.)
Got rid of loads to charity shop and freecycle.

You lot are doing so well..........puts me to shame so really must kick OH up backside (not literally):rotfl:
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Well in an attempt to continue decluttering today I emptied the chest of drawers in my bedroom and am now £15 richer!!!!! Also placed an Ad on Freecycle to get rid of an old tv:j. Am finding it hard going though because despite repeated requests/demands for help from my children I feel as if I am going nowhere fast. DD1 offered to clean/declutter the living room for me in return for cash and then changed her mind and said she couldn't be bothered. I've made it clear to all 3 children though that the only way they will get any money at all from me now is to help in decluttering around the house. But, they don't seem to care!!!! I wish I could make them see how hard it is for me. I suffer from depression and get very, very tired. I struggle to hold things together enough to be able to go out to work in the mornings without having to continually clear up after them but do they care, not a bit. At least I'm at home for a bit before the work begins on the house though and on wednesday this week which is my day off I'm going to ring round the charity shops and ask if they collect because I've got loads of bedding and books which need to be rehomed !!!!!
loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!

Well done to you all for your decluttering. OH managed to fill up half the recycling bin with old magazines today. I have cut the hedge and filled up the garden bin. I am finding it hard at the moment to work full-time and then decluttering at the weekend. It's a hard balance to sort out the home, try to relax and catch up friends and family over the 2 days off. I like reporting on here what I have achieved over the wekend it makes me feel like I am getting something done even if it is only baby step.
No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
