Decluttering 2012, this year, definitely ...

I started well on NYE when I took a pile of carpet to the tip, I seem to be creating more clutter now though by pulling wallpaper off walls. How does decorating disrupt the house so much?!
I do have a list of things that need to go to the tip & I'm going to try and get it done before end of Jan & once the bin men have been tomorrow I'll aim to get rid of a carrier bag of 'stuff' as regularly as possible. My kids seem to be stuff magnets though *tut*Save £6k in 2013 member 168 £1187/60000 -
7 items of random worn-out clothing to the bin
9 items of better quality clothing to the tip as soon as I can get there (later today probably)
Thought my get-up-and-go had got up and gone, but it's obviously still lurking there somewhere!
Hopefully back later with more to report:j0 -
You sound very fond of the collection. I'm sure everyone has stuff that they can't contemplate getting rid of at this stage - inherited, nostalgic, "stuff to keep for the grandkids".
I think the obvious clutter is the first to go at this time of year, whatever's surplus to requirements. If it's any help, I think we've needed one very small item out of the many "Justin Case" things we've disposed of over the years, most things are still available!‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

National Insurance can go back as far as it needs to (back to your 16th birthday!) All payslips should be kept for 6 years, but P60s and P45's should never be destroyed. Keep them forever!!
Thank you for that I shall keep all them and last 6yr payslips and throw restMummy to Lewis Born Aug 100 -

It might be worth asking at your local CS if they take 'rags' - a couple of ours take any old clothes & household textiles and broken belts, shoes & handbags and they are sold on, shredded & recycled.
The local hospice shop made just under £500 in one month this way.0 -
I'm not really doing any decluttering today. I did plan on it but I have ended up researching, being distracted by MSE and building lego helicopters. I figure these are good excuses
I shall be getting rid of the sad looking veg in our dinner tonight though so that's something

I need motivating today, think I've picked up DS2's bug and I'm feeling a bit off at the mo.
I need to clean the living room carpet today with the carpet washer, but have to find a way to peel myself off the sofa to pick everything up first
I have just disposed of a load of cardboard this morning though
Now on 8/100. I haven't been counting individual items, just bunched them together! Not sure if thats right thing to do, but still won't have a problem reaching target!96 items decluttered so far in 20130 -
OK i'll join. Is it chucking away - or do selling or charity shop count?
Be back with todays later.
Anything that leaves your house!
Charity shop/selling/recycling/giving away as much as possibly and using the bin as a last resort.
There was a list a few of us did in the last thread of places you could take stuff to be recycled etc I'll try and find it and post in a bit.Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000
