Im such a clutter bug! I keep finding myself reading other peoples posts and thinking, I could use that! Doh!:o

Also just put a mug in the bin that decided to attack me when I was washing up, clearly this is why I hate housework Im too accident prone! Also on my third plaster as a result of said attack!

    Takes me to 40/100 though

    ^^^^^^^ yes!!for tiny!
I topped my 'put it down and lose it' habit today. Nipped home from work before picking Son up from after school club. Could not find keys to go back out...had only been home 10 minutes...ended up walking.

Keys and diet book now found.

    33. Dried up poster paints
    34. Two 'tat' boxes reduced to one. So cardboard box and general tat gone
    35. small pile of papers burnt.

Have also sorted about a carrier worth of scrap paer but will count it when it leaves the house to the dump (Black box full!)

Random de-cluttering question - how many sets of bed linen is reasonable to keep. There are two of us, we have a double bed, and a single bed for guests (rarely do we have guests, as getting into the spare room is a challenge and seeing the actual bed under all the rubbish in there is another challenge in itself). I have something like 10 double duvet covers, six double sheets, about 5 single duvet covers, 3 single sheets and at last count something like 40 odd pillow cases. I don't need all those, do I. I need to go through them, find all the sets, and get rid of the rest, don't I.

I have four king size duvet covers/pillowcase sets and five sheets for my bed (and about six randow pillowcases) and only one sheet and cover set for the single guest bed. We don't get that many guests, so I just wash it and leave it in the airing cupboard until the next guest arrives! It would be nice to have a spare set for the single bed, but personally I wouldn't keep more than two sets in for guests. I would think five or six sets for your own bed would be reasonable. I definitely agree you don't need 40 pillow cases. :D

I have 1 bedding set for our bed and 2 for each child's bed (in case of illness really). I am trying to work up to having 2 for our bed too but as I want to replace all of our bedding with linen sheets or 100% cotton lovely old stuff, it will be on an as and when basis. I have ordered a large sheet and a pair of pillowcases this last week but I think that I am going to use the linen sheet to back the quilt I am making which means I'll need to order at least 2 more top sheets and 2 more bottom sheets for our bed. I will also need lots of pillowcases but I also want to replace my pillows. I keep waking with a sore stiff neck in the mornings so I think I will look into buying a couple of lovely fat pillows.
Nothing decluttered today other than food but I have come home and dealt with the paper work straight away and put it back in kids bags and got rid of unwanted bits.
I survived my day shift too, the morning was lovely but the afternoon was hellish due to someone not wanting to do any work and leaving it for the rest of us.

Well I got the urge to clear out the kids toy cupboard this evening so have cleared out loads! Also deep cleaned the lounge so some bits removed here too.

    49. Carrier bag full for CS
    50. Big load of broken toys / bits to bin
    51. Box full of toys to take to mums
    52. Several toys removed for NCT Nearly New Sale
    53. Large plastic bag which had logs in emptied and binned - logs now nicely stacked in wooden box on the hearth. Something that DH could quite easily have done when he brought them in last week!!
    54. Large cardboard box to recycling

I'm probably well over the 100 items just with this load so not counting them separately.
Off to clear out the toy cupboard at my mum's tomorrow so more decluttering even if it isn't my own.

Just enjoying the cleany feeling of the lounge for a few minutes whilst I declutter the dregs of a choc box left over from xmas then bed for me. I need my energy for tomorrow's clear out.

My OH spent 6 momths building himself an enormous work shop at bottom of garden - with full services - water electric. But for some reason its still OK to 'store' tools and boxes of bluddy screws on kitchen work top by back door  and yes whenever I mention this the day pretty much goes down hill :o I also have the 'this is a useful bit of wood' debate on a regular basis - but apprantly I cant have useful bits of anything because that is clutter........... AAARRGGH!

I am with you and Judi!!

I have two men in this house - husband and dad and neither seem capable of either going to the shed for tools (labelled boxes with decorating, electrical, plumbing, hardware, etc all sorted), looking under the stairs (power tools mainly and spares such as blades for saws) or walking to the lean-to off the kitchen (spanners, screwdrivers, hand saws, etc). It is just easier to moan at me that they can't find anything.

I have even been so anal as to produce laminated labels and baskets for the tools in the lean to so you can clearly see what is inside - yet neither bloke is able to find anything apparently!

I still find screwdrivers, screws, drills, etc etc in the kitchen dresser drawers, stashed in sideboards, etc. It drives me potty and of course nobody else (including me who does 90% of the diy anyway) can find anything because it isn't where it is supposed to be!

    Don't you just love em!:D
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

A couple of weeks ago my other half lost a particular screwdriver and he turned the place upside down looking for it but couldnt find it. Our son found it a few days later in my his room. Last time my husband used it was when he installed our sons new pc but all the gubbins he used he just left in the desk drawers.

Meanwhile today, i searched high and low for my sons old phone charger and couldnt find it anywhere. whilst i was searching i found umpteen leads, spare hard drives from our sons old pc and other bits and peices. I even found the soldering iron he 'lost' last weekend. So i have collected the whole lot up. Old disks, leads, hard drives everything to do with the computers and put them all together. In theory he wont have to search for anything again but i think he is going to hit the roof when he sees the amount of stuff he's accumulated. To be honest the whole lot needs a good sort through but i'm afraid that is down to him to sort through as i dont know whats what.

I need a home thats tidy and clutter free. I need a home where we dont have to go searching for things or a home where things get lost. Theres only three of us, this goal should be achievable.

  • Not much decluttering to report over the last few days but did manage to empty a large metal trunk of files, found space for these on the shelves that were decluttered in January and then stored the throws in the trunk. This has now freed up more floor space and a basket that was previously to small for said throws anyway. Unfortunately the basket is now stored in my room of doom (my bedroom) awaiting a decision (with lots of other stuff) on whether to keep or get rid.

    So:
kitchen done bar a few in cupboard tweaks
    Dining room done
    Living room done
    Bathroom done
Just boys bedroom and ours to sort but have been putting these off!!

I am definitely finding little and often works even if it makes progress slow. It also has the added advantage of not being too obvious to the DH!!

However, now things are starting to have a 'place' the keeping tidy I'd beginning to rub off on DS6 who spotted some post on the work surface awaiting sorting from that day. He asked me when I was going to get round to clearing it away. I was in the middle of doing the dinner so said I would do it afterwards. After dinner I went to clear the post to find it had all been put in a neat pile near the bin lol. Luckily not in the bin.
