Fantastic news Mrs H...that is what I call a real shot in the arm!
I told..well he found out...my OH about the real state of our finances just a month ago and life has been so so much better since. The horrid secret is out and it is making such a difference having both of us in on the struggle.
Interestingly he found out by reading my sig on the diary...I must have left it open one day on tablet..
Keep posting. It helps so much and of course we love hearing from you:D

I'm so glad for both you, Brizzledfw and Happy Now that your OHs know the situation. Keeping secrets is such hard work - and you're sleeping better HN, so it just goes to show that you're (marginally) less stressed than this time last year.
And progress financially! Well done - it must be such a relief.Better is good enough.0 -

Thanks for the good wishes everyone, it means a lot
. I've been really struggling to get on here recently and I have so much to update. I need to sleep, so tonight I will just update on Mr Happy's reaction to hearing our debt figure.
Our upcoming cash influx really forced my hand. Ever since my LBM I have preferred not to tell him the figures. I've never hidden credit card statements or anything - they've always been kept in unlocked files - but he has no interest in money and has always just left the finances to me. It suits us both. He is a worrier and there was nothing to be gained from telling him. It wouldn't have changed our situation other than I would have had to cope with his angst on top of our poverty!
But when we heard we had some money coming, it naturally led to a discussion on what we would do with it. His suggestion was a cheap holiday and a deposit on a decent car (his car is on its last legs and has been for years). At that point I said that we needed to put most, if not all, of it towards our debts. I still didn't intend telling him the exact debt figure unless he specifically asked. And he specifically asked!
On hearing that we have unsecured debt of over £64K he was naturally a little shocked! I told him not to panic because it is reducing each month, but that I would really like to chuck the lump sum at it to help us be more financially secure. He was a bit disappointed that there won't be a new car yet, but agreed that the debts should take priority. That was over a week ago, and I think if I was to ask him today how much we owe, he wouldn't even remember the figure!
So, Mr Happy now knows our situation! Hand on heart I don't feel any better for sharing the knowledge, but I'm pleased to say I don't feel any worse either.
LBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!
Debt Dec 11: Unsecured £69,579 + Mortgage £59,948 = £129,527
Debt May 21: Unsecured ZERO! ZILCH! Mortgage £22,3321 -
I am so glad it went well and about your unexpected windfall. Good for you :beer:0
