    Hi all

Welcome Dinah dog! Absolutely agree with the others to start a diary and see what advice you can get... Only thing I noticed is you are setting aside a lot of money for presents I'm sure you can get that down and still give wonderful gifts this Christmas my mum made really easy body scrub and jar with hot chocolate marshmallows etc and got us each basically new book from charity shop! She spent 25 on each of us and they were lovely presents :)
Honey your right I take back my fail I have done some good changes and I can do better :)
    Debt: £14,000 now £2169
    Emergency Fund: 1000/ £1000
    :j
  • Thank you jvr - I have just started my own as suggested. You are right about the presents - I suppose I just want everyone to think we are doing ok - which we would be if we were more sensible with our money. also, it feels embarrassing at my age to be admitting to it all!! Thank you
    Jan 2017 - Unsecured debt - £28,600
    2017 - A year of Austerity -
planning to have fun while doing it
    :j
    Vanquis CC - £2500 now £350 :)

sorry Mr Hs mum is still not well. don;t be backwards in coming forwards in asking for GP or district nursing visit if you are worried. I have missed what the problem is but she may be entitled to aids and such for her home
Thanks Chev. It was a fall, she broke a bone in her pelvis. She lives in a residential home but it's not a nursing home, so although they're geared up for her frailty we will need to make sure she gets the medical & physio care she needs.

    Hellooo

Just gonna put a big fat fail next to all my targets... although have improved taking makeup off even if some nights its grabbing a make up wipe!
Had a quick scan of posts but I am sure missed loads so will try catch up on all your targets!
Discovered my 'group' of friends have been organising a birthday meal for one of them. This girl is actually closer to me than any of them but since its been organised with ex-friend I don't have an invite. Birthday girl has invited me anyway as its meant to be for her but she hasn't told the others yet and I'm really torn on whether I confront the issue / even go?! These girls bar one are all meant to still be my friends and the birthday girl sees me more than any of them but they are all in a group chat with ex friend where it go organised... umming and ahhing what to do..... all seems so ridiculously petty! Why would you not just invite me and let me and ex friend decide if we want to see each other?!
    Hi jvr :)
Like Honey says, we don't 'do' fail - we just do 'work in progress'! Anyway, I've just had a look on your diary and I'm not surprised you're struggling for time to learn a foreign language - I'm surprised you're finding time to breathe!

Hmm about the birthday meal. In your position I probably wouldn't go, but I'm a bit of a wimp, and if you can brave-face it then why not? Personally I would invite birthday girl to celebrate with you on a different night and make sure she has more fun with you than she did at the meal!

    ^ ^ ^ Wot she said.

Five fruit and veg a day: Beetroot juice, veggie curry (multiple and various), pineapple, avocado and I made a big new vat of veggie curry with our fave curry sauce and all the bendy veg at the bottom of the fridge so the freezer is restocked.
Lights out by 11.30pm Tick and I woke up at 6.00am. Lovely. Also noticed that OH *snaked* his light off before that. Nothing to do with having too much to drink and an extremely late night the night before of course. Or the snoring, the grating voice, and the cough. Nothing at all.
Make [STRIKE]100[/STRIKE] 1 sales cold calls by 31.1.17. Finished.
One random act of kindness or public service a day Nuffink.
Record something lovely that happens every day so that at the end of the year when I [STRIKE]empty the jar[/STRIKE] flick back through the book I'll remember all the good things that happened Tick.
After 7th January cut out sugar until 1st February. I confess to eating two skinny slices of fruit cake.

I have excellent news. For those of us lacking in motivation I have found something that I think fits right in to this system. Linky here to a Ted Talk on changing behaviour that makes complete sense to me and I will be adjusting targetty goal things around it in future. As the phone call thing is done my replacement activity will be:
    • After I teepee my teeth I will electric toothbrush behind the two front lower teeth. That's it. Nothing more. Awesome. (Loathesome word, but if you watch the video it'll make sense. I'd be very inerested to hear what anyone else thinks of BJ Fogg's thesis.)
    Better is good enough.

I'm afraid that I agree with HappyNow and Honey Bear on this, I wouldn't go and I like the suggestion to invite the birthday girl out another time to celebrate.

Thanks HoneyBear, the Ted Talk was pretty good (in fact, I would even go as far as saying it was awesome :p). I can see how this would help to establish good habits. I wish he could tell me how to get rid of some of the bad habits that I have already established though.

The consensus is that you replace the bad habits with good ones, but that's spectacularly unhelpful, isn't it?! Keep looking, because if there is a simple answer it's out there somewhere. I suppose it's what I'm trying to do with the targetty goals each month.

Five fruit and veg a day: Beetroot juice, veggie curry (multiple and various), pineapple, carrots, parsnips were sadly lacking, so more sweet potato, broccoli.
Lights out by 11.30pm Nearly a tick

(And from here on in I'm banning that word from my vocabulary.)
    Better is good enough.

Ted talk will be watched tonight! Love stuff like that.

After consensus on here (thank you ladies) it suddenly hit me of why would I want to go when clearly only birthday girl wants me there... even if it is just because of ex- friend its not kind. So I texted birthday girl and explained how I felt and would like to do something separate. She sent lovely message back saying shes sorry that is situation and we will do something more fun (ironically exactly what you all said haha)
Felt bit down about it all but much perkier this morning, now got a text from one of the girls asking about a lunch break coffee will have to decide if will bring it up then but just gonna see what happens and not overthink it!
My sunday brunch friend bought me an Afrikaans cd so can start looking at that this week.
Cycled in and did yoga at lunch... make up off last night... and back on with fitbit and calorie counting

Five fruit and veg a day: Beetroot juice, sultanas, veggie curry (onion, courgette, sweet potato, carrots, parsnips and chickpeas) peas. Show off!
Lights out by 11.30pm Not a tick. We had friends around. I couldn't get odds on the bet I wanted to put on. I am not a betting person, normally, not even the grand national, so it's hardly surprising. Trump impact?
Make 100 sales cold calls by 31.1.17. Very few calls made (er ... one) and it's done and dusted for the year. In the end I f'book messaged another business, emailled several and made one phone call but they were all very carefully selected. Very happy with the outcome so far and I may approach a few more new businesses, but then again I may not, and I will follow up some from last year next. (Discovering I've only got 50 of one of the most popular cards left and having completely sold out of the local best seller, I don't want to have to pay for another print run unless it looks as though this idea has legs. This year is make or break, basically, because of that.) Well whatever happens, 'make or break', you're giving it one heck of a shot and it seems like there's plenty to keep playing for. I have everything crossed for you. And it's only 23rd of the month and you have completed your revised target. Congrats!
One random act of kindness or public service a day Did something new and I'm going to follow it up to see if it has a long term solution. This is turning into a 'Good deed for the day' kind of thing. :)

Five fruit and veg a day: Beetroot juice, veggie curry (multiple and various), pineapple, avocado and I made a big new vat of veggie curry with our fave curry sauce and all the bendy veg at the bottom of the fridge so the freezer is restocked. That's you sorted until the end of the month then

. After 7th January cut out sugar until 1st February. I confess to eating two skinny slices of fruit cake. But it's fruit cake - two targetty birds with one stone. Congratulations on your multi-tasking

Yes, that was interesting and I'm now working on a new awesome behaviour. Every time I finish a cup of tea (so about five times daily) I will do 'secret' tummy muscle and pelvic floor exercises in my chair. Just five after each cuppa
Record something lovely that happens every day so that at the end of the year when I [STRIKE]empty the jar[/STRIKE] flick back through the book I'll remember all the good things that happened OH made a lovely roast meal. Just because he does it most Sunday nights doesn't mean I should take it for granted. Indeed, many of us (OK, me) would LOVE an OH who can cook a Sunday dinner.

(And from here on in I'm banning that word from my vocabulary.) Ha ha, I did 20 of my tummy tighteners, twice tonight. Awesome (I'm not banning it, it's cute)

This weekend has been completely mad and I've no idea if I've kept to my targets. I've probably done some, so let's give me the benefit of the doubt and I'll start again tomorrow.

Saturday was spent moving trees/saplings that had to be chopped because they were growing in ridiculous places next door - a couple were literally growing through the barn walls. We now have tons of logs drying out to be free fuel for the next couple of years. We had a bonfire for the smaller branches and it was very physical work - my fitbit registered 25,000 steps that day and I was carrying heavy logs for half of those! We were going out at night and I had to have a nap and two ibuprofen before I could even climb in the shower!

Yesterday the electrician spent all day repairing/replacing our external wiring. The good news is our water pump and lights now work. The bad news is it cost £537!!! Completely essential work though and we were very impressed with the electrician and will use him again.

Tomorrow I'm taking my parents to sign contracts for their move, so I don't think I'll be resting any time soon :D
