Update for yesterday...
1) To have 12 NCDs - Rubbish eaten so my final figure was 12 but at least I made my target :j.
2) To walk an average of 10,000 steps per day over each week (so 70,000 total for each week) - Just over 11,000 steps :j.
3) To put my light out by 11pm every night including weekends - Light out at 11.20pm.
I'll try and pop back later but we have guests arriving today until Monday so it might be difficult. Is anyone else setting targets for July?0 -

Me, definitely. I've already started but this is the first chance I've had to get on here due to a couple of events. One good, one not.
The good stuff first. Little Miss H has completed her teacher training, been signed off as Outstanding, and has been offered a job teaching years 5/6 at a local school to start in September! We're so proud of everything she's achieved after that horrible illness. She also has a new young man in her life (who I haven't met yet, but who sounds just the job) and her world is looking very rosy.
Now the not so good. Our other elderly cat - this one is 16 - has been to the vet and we've been warned that she won't be with us long. We had the option to have her PTS there and then, or try her with various medications and injections to see if she can rally round. We chose the expensive option! £71 later, she is asleep next to me, but the vet feels it's 50/50 as to whether the drugs will work or whether there is a rapidly growing tumour which will mean the end.
Elderly humans all doing fine!
So, inspired by Dolphin's super-human June efforts, I am determined to keep to my July targets, which are:- Keep the super-tight budget going. Other than throwing several £100s at the local vets obv!
- Use my Fitbit every day. Do 11000 steps daily and eat properly, to lose half a stone before the end of August.
- At least seven hours in bed each night. Why is this so hard?

I hope having the company of Joey, Dolphin and I has helped jolly you along the way. I think it's rather nifty that when one of us drops out for whatever reason another one takes over, a bit like how birds fly in formation, honking at the leader from the rear while benefitting from the slipstream, if that makes sense. (You have a cute rear, as the Americans say, from where I'm positioned in the formation.)

I must admit that when I updated my debt figures after paying the redundancy chunk off last month, I kept signing back into MSE just to look at my own signature
As you say, still a long way to go, but just WOW! I'm already planning my post for the Debt-Free Roll of Honour thread and you lot all get a biiiig mention. Hi Happy,
Really sorry to hear about the cat, keeping my fingers crossed. Congratulations to Miss H- hope she likes her new school.
Well done on the debt figures! I know you used some of the redundancy money but I think its sensible to reduce your outgoings and hopefully you might be able to do some balance shuffles and lower interest. I have started too but because of our visitors, I haven't managed to get back on here to declare my targets (which are pretty much the same as last month). I'll post them next with an update.

That is lovely news to hear. Congratulations to Miss HappyNow especially after all she went through with that dreadful illness that took a long time to recover from. And a young man too, go Miss HappyNow :T!

Aww, this is very sad. It sounds like what happened to my mum's cat several years ago. The injections kept her going for several months but they were having to get more and more often to keep her comfortable until the vet said it was finally time to have her PTS. She was such a sweet cat. It was very sad but she gave us a lot of pleasure while she was here.

Good to hear :j!

Ambitious targets especially the step count, very good luck!0 -
Targets for July (and update for first 2 days)...
1) To have 14 NCDs (we have visitors twice this month for quite a few days but I am going to aim for 14 days anyway because July is quite long) - Suffice to say, with our visitors and a big birthday to celebrate (not mine), no NCDs so far.
2) To walk an average of 10,000 steps per day over each week (so 70,000 total for each week) - Just under 10,000 steps Friday and just over 6,000 steps yesterday. Our visitors can't walk very far so we have been using the car when we would normally walk. I am up to 60,000 so far this week though so won't be far off my target if I can get out for a walk (by myself) today.
3) To put my light out by 11pm every night including weekends (I am still struggling to nail this target) - 11.30pm Friday night and 11.50pm Saturday night but I'm blaming my visitors again for this.

Good to see you joining in your own thread and posting, Happy!

Marvellous news! Huge congratulations all round, and what a wonderful end result after her illness and the knock-on effect on her course. You have every right to be super-proud of her, she must have worked incredibly hard to to achive her Outstanding assessment. Lovely to hear she's got a new man in her life and I hope he treats her with all the respect and kindness she thoroughly deserves.

And I'd do exactly the same thing, regardless of the cost. Couldn't help it. So I'm gently cheering on second eldest mog and hoping for a miracle with you. Having to choose where to concentrate limited pennies and pounds shows us all exactly where our real priorities lie, doesn't it? Some things that we thought were important just melt away (bling, having the lastest smart phone etc) and others don't give us a second's pause (paws) for thought - it's obvious when push comes to shove. Cats, dogs, horses rule!

Because the only part of the day that we don't feel we have to be busy, doing something, achieving something, is at the end of the day. It's the only guilt-free relaxation we get, and if we're stressed or over-committed, or worried, or feeling guilty about life (ie all of us, all of the time it seems) we want to spin out that short bit of the day when we can feel good. I think. That's my theory, anyway, and figuring that out has helped me change the way I organise my time. If I stay up and try to make it last longer - I feel carp in the morning. If I go to bed and read, it lasts longer and I switch the light out earlier, get more sleep and am better equipped to deal with things the next day.Better is good enough.0 -

I'm not surprised! There's an old maxim OH and I live by when we're stuggling to keep going on something we're doing, and we lose heart - Everything looks like failure in the middle. Now that you're safely over halfway through would be when the dawning realisation that you've got all of that to go again demotivates people. In your case the redundancy money came along at precisely that moment and gave your figures the perfect boost, so you didn't appear to have that slumpy feeling. (I hope. Obviously we readers can't know what's happening in the real world, but you seem so cheerful all the time. It's very impressive.)
