I'm defo up for Astonishingly Awesome August, Happy. I've got three targetty-type goal ideas already so if you don't mind I'd like to keep you company for a little longer. This whole thing has been a real eye-opener in helping me to change bad habits that have been bothering me for years where nothing else has made the slightest dent.
    Better is good enough.

    1. Lights out by 11.30pm five nights a week. OH is now joining in which makes life a lot easier.
    2. Maximum of five mugs of real coffee a week. Having been a confirmed caffeine addict I'm free of it at last, thank goodness. Very happy with my decaff
    3. Five fruit and veg a day. Strawberries, beetroot juice (how did you take to it when you tried it, Happy?), swede and carrot mash, courgette. Oops, not achieved.
    4. Get Kelpie to [STRIKE]come to call reliably[/STRIKE] stop barking inappropriatly by the end of the month. It's taken over a month, but he's finally eating the full amount he should. I'm looking forward to not having to hand feed him but I'll keep going as long as I have to. I explained to him yesterday that the bad things were all over - teeth, lump and first groom all out of the way, so we should be able to settle down now and have a bit of normality.
    5. Give myself a couple of hours every day when I don't feel guilty about not doing more. Success.
    Better is good enough.

I use Olay Regenerist and stock up when it's on half-price. That's still £9.99 but I love how 'comfy' it makes my skin feel. They do a fragrance-free version, but I don't really have sensitive skin so I don't know how good it would be for you. What are you using now? What about going round a few department stores and scoring free samples from the posh lady ranges? Did you ever come across Piquant who used to post here? She did that all the time, saved herself a fortune :D.

Thanks for that. Had a quick look in Boots this morning and noticed that Olay Regenerist is currently reduced from £30 to £20 which I wouldn't mind paying if I knew that it wouldn't cause a reaction so I asked if they had any moisturiser samples to try and they didn't have any which I was pretty surprised about. I'll try somewhere else though so thanks for the suggestion.

It took me decades of trying different products that cost a fortune to discover that what really works for me is the N!vea range. Bog standard, often on special offer in Morribunds and totally effective at keeping my skin under control and looking good. The other thing that worked when my skin was in real trouble was Aqueous Cream although it's not for everybody, and my OH swears by Vitamin E moisturizer - he's a theatre type, where men discuss these things.

Thanks for that. If I can't find any samples from anywhere, I might give this more affordable range a go first before I buy anything more expensive.

    Update for yesterday...

    1) More ice cream. I'll be glad when we run out :).
    2) Light off at 11.10pm.
    3) Meal plan for the week already done although I've had to alter it slightly as my electric steamer that I love is no longer working :(. I've had 6 years out of it so I guess I can't complain.
    4) No spends on other people.
    5) Not done, I'll start again when I find a new moisturiser to try.

I was wondering, I did a cursory search but nothing jumped out at me, but could you perhaps email Olay customer services and ask them for samples. If you explain your skin type, past issues etc then I would think that they would like to try to help you. If you tweet then they may be available on Twitter too. I would suggest you could do the same with any of the other companies too. Oh and you could sign up to SuperSavvyMe who often do samples and freebies.

I am a committed Liz Earle user - not the cheapest by a long chalk but it works for my oily and aging skin, OHs sensitive dry skin and teenage boys. I had to kiss a lot of cosmetic frogs, and deal with the side effects, before I found it. Thankfully it is the kind of thing that makes a great birthday/christmas present and my family all know exactly what products I use.

So both your OHs use moisturiser? Mr H comes from engineering stock where men don't DO that :D. I have to nag him to apply sun cream. He does have a 'weathered' look though - that deep, rich patina of age! So do I though, and I've used it regularly since I was 25.....

Piquant used to do a tour of posh Department Stores. She'd hit the Clarins, Clinique, Estee Lauder etc counters. I seem to remember she went in Harvey Nicks and scored free food too. My own personal best was a bunch of free toilet rolls in Manchester Arndale! It was 'one per person' so I walked past over and over, once with coat, once without, once with glasses, once without :rotfl:

Erm..... you could always throw the ice cream in the bin you know?? Nah, I wouldn't either.

We had a mini-disaster here yesterday afternoon, food-wise. Whilst sorting the recycling I accidentally knocked an electrical trip switch and disconnected all the kitchen appliances. I didn't notice until this morning when the dishwasher wouldn't work. The freezer got down (up?) to three degrees, which Google tells me is the cut-off point for safety. I'm sure it will be fine.......... :o

ps - edited to tell HB that I haven't tried beetroot juice yet. I only ever remember it when I'm not in a supermarket!
