    Home insurance - legal protection

I understand what this is but is it really neccessary that we pay for this protection on our home insurance policy?
We also both pay for motor legal protection on our car insurance policies - again around £25 each - so that plus the home insurance is £75 a year.
We have a Barclays additions account (still must get around to changing that!) that account includes a free legal helpline - which i understand is for advise only - whereas the home & motor policies include up to £50k to fight a case on your behalf.

I can not find anything on home insurance legal protection or motor insurance legal protection on the MSE website.

Martin - if your out there please explain - it could save alot of people alot of money if like us they are paying for all these poilicies un-neccessary. Maybe there is one policy out there we could buy annually to cover home & motor ???

It's the extra add-on you don't really want to pay for but when you come to think about it you keep it on the policy just incase! - they also state once added no refund will be made....

  • Just wanted to share a good result on my home insurance.

I am with Sheilas Wheels and my policy is up for renewal on 01.09.09 they quoted me £237, I went onto a price comparison site and they are still the cheapest for me again this year. So I went direct to their website as a new customer with all the same details and was quoted £169. Great, saved £68. :j

I have heard that Quidco are not quick to give you your money, so it only looks good on paper, would be interested in hearing from those who have successfully got their money paid out from Quidco or any other pay back sites. Nevertheless, £78 is impressive, but depends on what you are insuring - is it building and/or contents insurance? and how big is your home? I found that insurance quotes tended to be higher through quidco and that included Asda. :-/

Hi - I got £45 through Quidco from LV last year, and it has been paid.

I am looking around again for this years home and contents insurance, is there any recommendations at all - I have read about esure and sheila's wheels on here and seen they do cashback

  • I didn't see this thread, but thought I would post this anyway. I just got my home and contents insurance renewal notice from a broker that specialises in over 50's. I always shop around so rang them to see exactly what it covered then I cud make comparisons. She asked me why I was asking and i said I was shopping around....was I not happy with the price, I said i always shop around, we went through what I was covered for, the excess, the elagl cover etc, and she said if she was to ask her manager to offer me a discount, if she could get one for me, would I be interested, if this was possible, I said maybe, depends how much, she put me on hold, came back with £20 discount if I paid, I hummed and harred, she came back with £29 discount, and I agreed, Yippee, I didn't call her for a discount, and I really like this insurer as I have had good service from them.

  • Can anyone help me? I stay in a flat and have found out
the underground pipe is leaking and has caused resettlement (I think)that's the word. We have to have building underpinned. How does this work with building insurance?

Contact the Insurer of the block of flats, they will normally appoint a specialist Loss Adjuster or Surveyer. Once the pipe is fixed (The repairs to the pipe may not be covered) they will monitor the building for anything up to 18 months so they can ensure any work they specify will correct the damage.

There is normally an excess of around £1000 to pay

Just look for a policy with ratng 5 Defaqto (cant remember how to spell its late).... Basically means it is one of the most comprehensive policies you will find. An example was Sheilas Whels home insurance but not sure now they dropped the identity theft cover.
