Its a very common misconception- it is perfectly legal to have multiple policies covering one thing/address (the naughty bit is when you claim from both without telling the other).
If you tell your previous insurer they might be nice and refund your previous premium.0 -
Is Liverpool Victoria Home Insurance got cheaper online??? my friend had a renewal quote with LV for £900. I went direct to LV website via Quidco and got price for £225 with buildings and contents cover.
got out house quoted for B&C or £240 (normally around £350)....so are LV doing special deals online?0 -
My home insurance quote from Tesco has DOUBLED this time. With a 3rd claim free year they think it's OK to assume we're 'lazy'.
So, last years premium - £320, this years £602.
Outrageous.
Martin Lewis - I ask you to name and shame Tesco!!!!
They also increase my car insurance by about 65% in a year.... I see a pattern forming!!!!!
They have to get their money back somehow, they cannot continue to provide overly cheap quotes year on year, it is a bit like a loss leader.
They make make a loss of profit in the first year but hope to make it back in the 2nd year from all those folks that just renew without shopping around.0 -
Its a shame that insurers rely to such a great extent on consumer apathy.
Thats to say, do nothing and your insurer will reward you with an uncompetitive house insurance renewal premium Whatever happened to loyalty?
No, it pays to shop around and with house insurance that means every year.
The good news is that theres so many great online house insurance deals to be had because all the players are scrambling for market share.0 -
I renewed my home insurance using a cashback site for the first time. My insurance will cost me £108 by going through Quidco - alot less than the £220 quoted by my old insurers!!
I've logged onto my Quidco account and the cashback is already logged - due to be paid in September. Thanks Martin!!0 -
Hi. If you buy home insurance through one of the cashback sites do you have to pay the full 1 year premium or can you still get cashback on monthly payments?0

You can still pay monthly for your insurance policy.

Just renewed my home insurance...with my existing insurer and saved 30% in 10 minutes!
Heres how. First, one phone call to a small independent general insurance broker for their best quote (get them to call you back). Second, armed with their cheaper proposal I returned to my existing insurer who low and behold knocked 30% off their original quote!
Paperwork = zero. Time = 10 minutes. Savings = Very Happy!
Anyhow I found a very useful non-commercial info site with some good tips which helps avoid some of the pitfalls at

Hi can anyone tell me if I need to add my partner who lives with me as a joint policy holder or can i just put the policy in my name like everything else.
thanks in advance0 -
Mrmoney - why not use the local broker then that saved you the money in the first place. At least they will look after you at every renewal ? ?0
