.... I told her this was contrary to the 'distance selling regs' and that they had to give me 7 days after receipt of the policy, ( I have since contacted trading standards and had this confirmed and told them about the company)......
Trading Standards mislead you.
DSR don't apply to insurance!0 -
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone could advise me. I moved into a rented house which my parents owned and took out insurance with More Than in 2007. I advised them that the home was rented and was told they had an offer on for a discount for taking out both buildings and contents. Not realising that I wouldn't be covered for buildings in the event of a claim, I took them up on this. It was my first home since moving out of my parents house and I was young but I took it in good faith that as I'd been offered a deal on having buildings insurance, I needed it and would be eligable if I needed to claim. Two years later there was a claim for storm damage to the roof which they declined as they said it was wear and tear and the assessor was fully aware that the house was rented so they had an opportunity then to advise me or cancel the insurance but didn't.
I called More Than today after finding out my position to be told that I should never have been offered the buildings insurance with contents and I should never have paid, however they won't refund unless they see proof of alternative insurance in my parents name for the entire period due to the fact that they paid the fees for the assessor in the previous declined claim. I know my parents have their current insurance certificate from January this year but they shop around and I don't know if they have any documents for previous years.
But surely whether my parents had insurance or not would be irrelevant as I was still mis-sold a policy which I could never claim on due to the fact that I had no insurable interest in the house? I offered to provide a copy of proof of my parents ownership as I felt this would be easier that hunting down 5+ years worth of documents but they wouldn't accept this.
Any advise please would be greatly appreciated.0 -

I remember years ago you could use the comparison sites to get the quotes and then go via quidco etc to grab some cashback.
My best quote this time is £340 with RAC but when I go via Quidco the exact same quote is £450.

There have been lots of similar posts over a while, it seems some insurers load the cashback/commission onto the rates when you click through from cashback sites.

I rent a property from a private landlord.
I have contents insurance with Direct Line but not buildings.
We had a kitchen fire @5.00am on Monday 28th May.
We all got out ok but the kitchen was gutted. the fridge freezer was the culprit.
The fire officer at the scene praised my actions for containing the fire and switching off all the electricity so his men were able to put the fire out quickly.
We have no electricity or heating in the house at all.
It says in my contents insurance that they would pay for alternative accomodation. Even the loss adjuster confirmed this on his visit.
It has now been declined as they said i had a clause in my tenanct agreement called 'cessation of rent'. My landlord has said it was my goods that caused the fire and therefore we should claim instead as he will not give any rent back whilst the house is unfit to live in.
Direct Line wont budge and we have had to sleep on floors since. Not too bad for me, but it has hard on our 3 young children (2,4 and 9).
Can i make a complaint against Direct Line as i am sure this is a case of whether this is picked up by the Landlords insurance or mine.
We are caught right in the middle.
Any advice would be great.
They way that Direct Line have spoken to me (even claiming i am trying to make money out of it) as a long standing customer of 20 years with only 2 previous claims (less than £200 each time) has really got my goat.
Wish i had let the whole house burn down now!!!!!!!!!

You are correct.Your should firstly complain directly to the insurer or whomever provided you the policy. The issue of whether your parents had the property insured is not the issue.I suspect they are asking this to find out if the porerty had been double insured. When making a complaint keep a record of who you spoke to,the date and time and ask them how you want them to put the situation right ie a position that you would have had a suitable policy provided.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I was medically retired in November 2008. In early 2009 I was looking at my bills and receipts and realised that my household insurance was costing me £38.74 per month so I organised the same cover for £75 per annum from a new provider. When I rang my previous provider they said they could match my new policy. I had my previous insurance from Lloyds for nearly 30 years and I trusted them as I have banking with them for 35 years, recently I received the good news that my PPI claim was successful.
Could anybody advise me in claiming the overpaid household insurance or is it to late ? All the years with Lloyds and they treated me this way.:(0 -
If you truly "overpaid" (ie you paid in excess of the required premium, either due to your error or a banking error), then write requesting a refund of the total you have overpaid.0
