I'd appreciate some advice please!
My flat is a listed building, because of which I'm having difficulty getting contents only insurance. Most large companies won't handle insurance for listed building which is not only bizare but a pain in the neck.
I've looked at a number of the larger insurance company sites and they all disallow listed buildings - can anyone point me in the direction of suitable companies please?0 -
I've just had my renewal from the Pru for contents and buildings insurance £434.70.
A while back Martin posted about Tesco offering half price insurance. I got a quote from them for £287.70. I rang the Pru to tell them I had a better offer and would not be renewing with them. I Can't believe they reduced their price down to £284.55!!
What a result!!

Last year I took out Tesco half price insurance for buildings and contents which is due for renewal on the 4/8/07. I've just come back from holiday and had a phone call from Tesco as I'd not rung to renew and told them I would decide after I'd shopped around. They asked if I had a few minutes to just check through my details and I told them no it was not convenient so he offered me two month's off my policy to just check the details. I said okay and after a couple of minutes of checking the details were all the same he reduced my price by £50? Just goes to show what they can reduce if they want to! :T:j Addicted to money saving0

For the third year running I have found Egg to give me the cheapest quote for building and contents insurance. This is despite checking all 3 search engines recommended by MSE, Direct Line, Halifax and one or two others. Additionally I was impressed as their renewal quote was actually cheaper than getting a re-quote - a bonus for continuing to be a customer!0

R.I.A.S. is charging me £121.64 (contents and building) insurance, just standard for a mid terraced house and for being over 50 and with burglar alarm and neighbourhood.
I am going to ring age concern as last year someone said it is cheapest.
I do find it very confusing getting so many quotes and R.I.AS. seems to have good feedback last year.
Any advice would be appreciated.Agood morning to you all and thanks in advance.

Contents Insurance: short term!
Any help appreciated on this one!
I'm moving into a rented flat for at least 3-4 months. Are there any insurers out there who provide a contents insurance plicy whereby I could take just a six month contract or even if I was in the property for 4 months, that would cover me just for that period???
Thanks!Slowly but surely getting rid of my debts

I've just inherited my mum's house after her death, and am struggling to find insurance for an unoccupied property which is going to go up for sale soon. I'm trying to sort all her belongings and furniture, but it's just another worry on top of everything else. Has anyone else had this problem?0

Depends on what you need to insure, the age of the house etc but they dont add on extra for valuables, that is done through one option rather than make it complicated and best of all - apart from the beating the renewal quote cashback they are offering - they give you £50 for changing to them. It has to be done through the Moneysupermarket link but when I had a query and rang them the lady actually told me to go through this link to get the £50 which I thought was pretty honest and decent. hope this helps someone. Apart from that Esure was extremely good!:A
I've just gone with Barclays for buildings & contents together and seems like quite a good deal - but probably only if you are already with another competitive insurer.
They are currently offering to match any like-for-like renewal quote and give £50 cash back if their first quote doesn't beat your renewal quote (which you have to show them). In doing this my net amount is less than I could get by switching anywhere else.
Furthermore, the minimum level of cover that Barclays offer for contents is £50k - which is £20k higher than the level I was insured with at Tesco. So I get £20k more contents cover for £50 less than Tesco (they matched it then gave me an extra £50).
The only minor downside is you have to pay the full amount and then they send you a cheque for the difference + £50. However, you can get round this because they have 0% APR on paying monthly DD so no big deal there.
Also I did it in the branch - no need to go through the above-mentioned link. If you're in the branch the brochure you need is the one with the sausage on the front
Might be a good time to ask your existing insurer for a renewal quote, take it to Barclays and see what they can do. Then you get a secure quote which I guess they'll hold open for a while. Could be significant bearing in mind the flooding which is expected to push up our premiums very soon.
