Extreme couponing !

Just caught the end of an episode as I flicked channels after Coronation Street. This guy bought nearly $900 of goods for about $20! And the best part was, he made it up into packs and donated it to US troops.
That to me is an excellent reason to use coupons.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I was quite proud of myself for managing to use almost £10 worth of coupons on my grocery shopping a few weeks ago lol, the SA didn't act wierd about it or anything. In fact, she said she wished she had the ability to find so many to use and then told me how she once wrote to Pampers after the ties on their nappies kept breaking and was so pleased when a bunch of coupons turned up as an apology - sounds like an MSE-er in the making to me!0

Extreme Couponing is a highly contrived and faked show; look up 'extreme couponing fraud' to see that many of the participants have even used coupons for the wrong products (which is not ok in the US despite popular belief) and counterfeited coupons. Even some of the most famous participants in the show admit that under normal circumstances they can save no more than around 60% off a shop, its just that things were set up for the show so they could make massive savings-after all making it look like someone is getting thousands of pounds worth of shopping for zero can only be good publicity for a store. Even so the Coupon Information Center (the body who represent manufacturers in issuing coupons) is now advising stores not to take part in this show; as the legal ramifications should counterfeit coupons be used; would be extremely serious.

You can see from the same site that counterfeit printable coupons are a massive issue over there. If anything couponing is better in the UK than in the US though there is a bit of a drought of coupons here at the moment; procter and gamble don't release printable coupons in the US and the ones they release in other media tend to be lower value than the SSM ones here, also there are generally no PDF coupons in the US. Please don't be disappointed watching this show as its NOT REAL! xx0 -
I saw the British show the other day and have subscribed to the discount coupon thread, I am going to do my first limited coupon shop tomorrow
Funny thing is I posted about on FB about couponing and the reaction I got was as if I was taking the food from the mouth of babes or animals!!! I think we in the UK have an attitude about it, whether its because some think it's a show of poorness or it's snobbery I don't know.
All I know is that supermarkets have made me very angry over the last year, to go one week and find that an item is up to 25p dearer than the previous week is appalling, a joint of beef is typical at some weeks £7.00 a kilo then the next £10.00 per kilo, it's not like they pass some of the profit to the staff in pay rises........................oops soapbox moment there LOL
I would love to watch that programme but am unable to find any link to it online. What channel was it on and is there any way I can catch up on it, besides youtube. I'm really interested in collecting supermarket coupons. Any advice you can offer me would be very welcome.
Thanking you,

I have seen the USA programmes on couponing, some woman went into shop with bundle of coupons and spend $400 used her coupons and actually got change back. Would love it if it were to come over here.0

They dedicate their entire lives to couponing. I enjoy watching the ones who donate their hauls to good causes. I managed to get about £7 or £8 off a bill. The only thing the guy said was that he had to override the system to accept so much off and that coupons couldn't take off over the value of the item.0

Some of the contestants who give to good causes on the show are the ones who have been caught on camera using fraudulent coupons, it's common knowledge that contestants on the show use fraudulent coupons, time magazine even said maybe the show should be renamed extreme counterfeiting. Even in this country you could get 100s if not 1000s of shopping worth for free if you used fake coupons or ones for the wrong product (also common on the show-and more illegal in the US than here). But it would also be a criminal offence. TLC really don't care though unfortunately xx0

I didn't know that. How do the stores let them get away with it? Especially if it's a known scam. They're so cheeky using them openly! Xx0

Some chains have now banned Extreme Couponing from filming in any of their stores; such as Lowes (you will see their stores featured quite often in the first two series), I heard Walmart and other big chains said no outright from the start; ultimately though even if they are losing a few thousand pounds from being defrauded; the publicity of their chain of stores being on the show often will outweight this in terms of financial benefit. Also if they go after customers in the courts-this could make them look like the bad guys no matter how justified they are in doing so. I think the show will be cancelled soon though as the ratings in the US have plummeted from millions to a few hundred thousand, a lot of people are switching off as they blame this show for the increasingly draconian coupon policies that some store chains are adopting-these make the couponing rules we have in the UK look really relaxed and tame in comparison.
