11) Greece’s debt crisis has made headlines this year. If its €340billion debt were divided between every Greek citizen, approximately how much would each person owe?
A. £13,000 B. £23,000 C. £33,000 D. £43,000
is C from here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15748696
Yes I agree. my calculator based on that link make it £31,756.049 so C £33000 is closest.@SteveMse on twitter & Steve.mse on Facebook. Follow if you like and get a follow back too. :beer:0 -

I have doubts about Q30 being £97, The calculator used in post #10 states it only uses data upto 2009.
Article from HERE says it was worth £98 in December 2009.
RPI Table HERE gives 1972 as 22.5 and 2009 as 218.0 which would give £97 to 2009.
Very latest RPI index from ONS is HERE and is 238.5 This would give a figure of (10*238.5/22.5) = £106
If you take the Mail's December 2009 article which said £98, and the 2 year RPI figure of 10.1% then this would result in £107.90.
I am going for answer = D. £108
Many thanks to all for posting their answers.
On this one, for what it's worth I used to work on the RPI and i'd agree with the above. One of the other links used Purchasing power and couldn't see their calcs, but seemed to refer to GDP which was why it didn't go up to 2011.0 -
Hi
I have had a request to merge this thread with postals but as it now has 55 posts I think that would be too confusing

I hope we can solve No 30
I think it is a trick question personally
and thank those of you who are more cautious and
clever than I
Looks more like £1080 -

Telegraph says it would be worth £98
(since I am a new user I am not allowed to post a link here yet)
If telegraph quote is http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/liberaldemocrats/6865057/Pensioners-10-Christmas-bonus-is-same-as-four-decades-ago.html
then this article is also from December 2009, since when RPI has increased 10.1% (it is 5.2% (annual) at the moment - a figure people may be more familiar with). I'm pretty certain that answer = D. £1080 -
Thank you for your help x0

Q11 - Greek debt - (can someone double check in the paper that the question states €340billion)
We are given the figure of €340 billion to use in the question - so we can't use other figures such as the €400 billion in the BBC article. The only variables are the number of Greeks and the £/€ exchange rate (which is 1.2 and relatively stable).
Population of Greece is approx 11 million (estimates vary from about 10.9m to 11.4m). About 93% of these are Greek citizens, but there are also Greek citizens living abroad. I have seen one figure of 4million Greeks abroad, but most of these will be of Greek heritage and probably not still Greek citizens. Using 11 million this gives us 340000/11 = €30,909 = £25,758. Using 11.4 million gives £24,854
(IF the figure was £340billion (not €) and the population 10.3m then this would give £33,000)
Working backwards from £33,000 then this would mean the population of Greece is 340000/(33000*1.2) = 8.58 million
Working backwards from £23,000 then this would mean the population of Greece is 340000/(23000*1.2) = 12.32 million
So unless a couple of million Greeks have disappeared, then B. £23,000 is the most reasonable answer.0 -

I see what you mean. This article here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2041522/Bank-France-chief-denies-1-7trillion-backroom-deal-save-eurozone.html
calls it: George Osbourne denies reports that G20 will allow Greece to default on £340 billion debt
Although Ministers are officially still insisting publicly that the country should honour its obligations, behind closed doors, the G20 has agreed Greece will never be able to repay its staggering £350billion of government debt.SECRET TO WINNING PRIZES:
