The Winding Road.. Pea's 2012 Journey

Morning Guys
Well I know I'm a little early for a 2012 thread, but I wanted to get mine in place ready for the New Year
ok about me, I'm 29, single and living with my Mum. I'm in Debt, but desperate to sort myself out.
I've just sat down and been through the budget and it's tight
but I can do this. I've decided to make the big step (for me) of leaving my c/c at home I do not need a comfort blanket!!!
So the debt's stand like this:
Loan 1 - £3,471.56 (should finish Jan/Feb 2013)
Loan 2 - £2,753.10 (finishes about Sept 2013)
c/c - £11,523.86 ()
As you can see I need to get through to the beginning of next year to free up about £285 a month, which will make paying off the rest much easier!
The plan is to not spend anything and Ebay as much as possible. I know that this seems like a hard line to take but it is needed. There are some HUGE changes that need to happen to make this work, but I have no choice.
So here we go.... to 2012

Plan for today:
Stay at home and have a NSD
or at the very least walk into town and cash in the winning scratch card my Uncle got me as part of my Christmas present, I never play these things of £10 :T is nice.
I always want to ferret out some stuff to get ready to Ebay, I'm sure I have quality items hidden away somewhere.
Think that's about it, need to have a post Christmas tidy up too.Total at 9th Feb 12 - £17,500  Now - £6,851.05Loan - £6022.05, [STRIKE]Card 1 - £3293.85,[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Card 2 - £2287.04[/STRIKE], Sofa - £825.00Wedding Pot - £0.00

Hi peabody, looks like you're well set on the exciting road to debt freedom!
:j
I know what you mean about a comfort blanket, although I haven't spent on credit cards for a while I HATE not having cash to hand, and am always drawing out an extra £10 or getting cashback when my purse looks empty 'just in case'. In case of what I have no idea!! Then of course it gets frittered away on random crap.... good luck with the Ebay trawl!Savings target: £25000/£25000

Thanks, it's scary as these little things become so much as part of our lives. I don't need it, and I certainly shouldn't be spending on it, so what is the point in carrying it with me??Total at 9th Feb 12 - £17,500  Now - £6,851.05Loan - £6022.05, [STRIKE]Card 1 - £3293.85,[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Card 2 - £2287.04[/STRIKE], Sofa - £825.00Wedding Pot - £0.00

Right so it's 11.20pm and like so many evenings when I've been sorting through the budget... I can't sleep

I'm tired but things keeping going round and round in my head. Sometimes I just don't know what to do. Logically I know everything will be ok, but sometimes, like tonight I manage to freak myself out completely....
I had depression a few years back, when I first found this site and it all makes me worried that I won't be strong enough to fight the debt and not get down again. Daft I know, because tomorrow when I've had some sleep it'll all be ok again
So here are a few positive things to remind me that all is ok:
I have a £10 scratch card I still need to cash (free money as was a Xmas pressie
)
I've just transfered the £12 I'd forgotten about in my paypal account (must have been there about a year
:rotfl:)
I've had a NSD (ok not left the house but hey)
Which is all good. Things I've decided to do:
Get out of the works lottery, it's only £4 a month, but that's my £4.
See if I can get a payment break on my big loan - not ideal I know, but my car needs some work and I'm worried I wont have enough savings to cover it. Anything that doesn't go on the car will be paid off the debt.
See so many things floating round my head, mainly where am I going to get money for things like my car... I'm going to have to Ebay like my life depends on it (which it kind of does)
Feels better to write it down, but I still have that horrible knot in my stomach

Good luck Peabody.
I had a very similar amount of debt when I started in August and I've made great headway with it already - I'm sure you can do the same

Good luck Peabody, I am in a very similar position to yours - Frightening isn't it? I know we will all get there though

Thanks Guys
As I told myself last night all is better in the morning
. But I have decided to get back out and about today, as I have been very lazy over Christmas.
Going to cash that scratch card, take Mum shopping, I have some Christmas money, so will allow myself a small spend but most of it will go into savings for my car. That way it will go towards something useful .
1 thing I have realised this week, I don't spend money if I don't leave my house
, shame I can't work from home :rotfl:.
Anyway my plan for staying good when I go back to work, I was given 2 diaries for Christmas, 1 is a week per page I normally use and the other is a day per page. This one I am going to use as a journal type thing, somewhere I can keep track of my diet (yes it's Jan
) and also any spends I do have so I can try and cut them back. (mutters must thinks of packed lunch ideas....)
Right I think that's it for now...
Cya you later

I'm terrible at packed lunch ideas! My DB is lucky, he has the same thing every single day and doesn't get bored or tired of it... in winter I tend to take in soup and a bread roll for lunches. Those tetra-pack type soups are often on offer in the supermarkets for around £1 and will last 2 days. I look upon bento box packed lunches with serious envy!!Savings target: £25000/£25000
