  • Does anyone else feel like the OP is being laid into because she revealed her SIL's situation, which she herself cannot change? She said in her original post that she thinks they
    should just offer to stop exchanging gifts if the financial situation means she can't afford a gift.

    The age thing is a point though ... when a toddler is unwrapping a present then it shouldn't be something that they could choke on if their parents don't snatch it away fast enough. It would be better not to get a gift from them at all.

    Agree. And it would also avoid the poor kid having the unsuitable present being taken off him and having the inevitable resulting upset.
