My madnees was in office not explaining the size difference to hubby, my daughters both have a normal size 3 and 4's so why have they change them?? if they had told my hubby they were only in half sizes I have a feeling he would have been a bit more hesitent in buying them!

And I dont care what you are supposed to do with them as regarding socks but I wont be wearing them without, personal choice and one I will be sticking too :p

As for being ungrateful, I am certainly not, but considering I walk about 4-6 mile a day and I am VERY heavy on my shoes, I cannot justify that amout for something I will wear out, my last ones I got in clarkes sale for £94 and that broke my heart but went along with hubby saying you get what you pay for blah blah, that was Jan last year and were no good to wear this year!!

We went to the one in town today, and there was nothing that caught my eye, I ended up using it on the kids ;)

But I must say the attitude of the staff in 2 shops was terrible, I asked if they had explained the sizing difference, knowing that a man buying boots were clearly a gift and the answer we got was 'everybody knows', even when I showed them my daughters with a size 5 clearly written on them bought from debenhams for xmas, yet apparently you cannot buy a normal size!!

Ugg changed it recently because they make there boots in relation to Australian sizes, people were finding they were buying a 5 or 6 for example and it wasn't, it was a 5.5 or 6.5, so they re-sized all there Boots to make it clearer which size people were buying. Although almost everyone I know goes down a half size/full size with Uggs. You really need to buy them tight, as they do stretch, and would probably be the advice of any shop assistants when buying them.

With wear and tear, I've had my Uggs 3 years and I am very heavy on shoes and boots and they're still going strong, despite all the heavy snow last year.

Uggs do only come in half sizes because they are American/EU sizes translated into a UK size. So a USA 5 EU 36 Equates to a UK 3.5 - i'm not sure how your daughter has uggs in a size UK 5 (check the label inside under where it says UK) are they Uggs or a different brand I didn't think Debenhams sold Uggs don't they sell "Just Sheepskin" boots instead?. The 5.5 would probably be perfect for you as you are not meant to wear Uggs with socks (and they do not get smelly) they will feel very tight at first as the sheepskin is all fluffy but it sort of moulds to your foot shape after a few wears. I would swap them for a 5.5 or sell the voucher on ebay for a small loss.

Is that why UGG wearers always walk as though they're wearing boots that are too big for them ?

    proper uggs dont do that

    cheap and nasty imitations do!

Drives me up the wall- you can hear them coming a mile off because they dont seem to have the ability to lift their feet completely off the ground, and end up dragging their feet along the ground......!

I still can't see why your poor OH was in receipt of your vent (as per the title of your thread).
And to me, you do sound ungrateful.

What's the point of buying sheepskin boots made from pure, natural sheepskin and wearing socks with them?
They are designed to keep your feet warm in winter and cool in summer.
Quote from an authorised Ugg retailer:
Wear Your UGG Boots With No Socks On!

In order to ensure that the natural sheepskin can regulate the temperature of your feet, allow air to circulate freely and wick away moisture you should wear them barefoot!

and another reason why you should wear them without socks:
UGG Boots Are Healthy For Your Feet

The luxurious sheepskin lining inside your UGGs contains lanolin, a natural moisturiser. It encourages blood circulation too, which would help any cuts on your feet to heal far more quickly.

But carry on with your personal choice, dear. :p

I think the only thing your OH is guilty of (if anything!) is not doing a bit of research on-line about sizing.

I found lots of websites discussing sizing variations, reviews about sizing from people who'd bought UGGS and tips on measuring your foot length.

    How old is your daughter?
Didn't she know anything about UGG sizing?

Debenhams sell EMU boots now (still 'proper' sheepkin boots) but the OP bought her daughter's UGGs 2 years ago so maybe they did sell them then.

I must have missed that. She said her daughter bought them for xmas but didn't stipulate which one...

However, Debenhams have never been a stockist for UGGs. They only sell EMU and Just Sheepskin boots.

I agree it's naughty of staff in stores to give the wrong impression about statutory rights - even if it is by ommission.

Indeed, it would be an offence to do so on a sign. So why do they think it's OK to do it verbally? Naughty.
  • Sorry just checked with her and it was fenwicks we got them at!

Maybe it's just poor staff education.
Is it something that happens often? Always?
Is it widespread throughout all their stores?

I can't comment as I've never bought anything from Office so I don't know what staff say.

I do know, however, that if you buy something in M&S from the 'sale' rail (not the usual sale stuff, it's a special rail (sometimes called 'Manager's Specials'), items have a 'S' stamped on it or in biro and you can't return these items at all.

There's usually a sign on the rail explaining that (and about your statutory rights) but all assistants have ever said to me (as far as I can remember) is that the items can't be returned - no mention of statutory rights.

I usually respond to that by saying "Of course, unless it is faulty in some way, in which case I can return them".

So, no different to Office then, really.

Is it against the law for assistants not to mention your statutory rights when you make a purchase?
