Declaring £321 for Jan, £21 over.

Had my last Mr T shop of Jan this morn and can't say I was too impressed. The driver had broken our eggs, and someone else's cream, which had gone all over our shopping and he just left me to clean the mess up.
I hope you complained too! That's disgraceful

My daughter - who is five, going on ninety - went to bed the other night, tucked up and with one of my recipe magazines :rotfl: Anyway, she asked me if I'd make her a roast chicken for dinner so that's what we're having tonight.

I got one of the M&S meal deals so a huge chicken, garlic mushrooms, chocolate souffles and a bottle of wine (that will be either gifted, or used for bolognese) and a few cartons of milk (from FF). I have to say though, I was completely impressed by the milk from M&S - it lasted for ages after the date.

That's a final £11.80 to add so I'm declaring a total of £114.76 for the January portion of the budget.

Which is £51.90 under budget, which should see us perfect for my shiny new kitchenaid :A
  • I gave up going to the hairdressers a year ago and have been dying my own grey hair at home using things that tell me "you're worth it" since. (saves me about £50 every 6 weeks)

With renewed January MSE vigour I decided to save myself a further £2 a time and try Ald* own brand (begins with a C) and today was the day....

It worked beautifully! (I look gorgeous :D) I shall be using it again. :T

Thought I better tell you were worried that it made your hair fall out..... mines still intact!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:(so far - will keep you posted)

Hope you have a peaceful Sunday.

Thanks sistercas-i know you are right as i was spending about £400 a month (if not more) before i started the GC every month.

I just cant seem to resist going to the supermarket some days, even when i dont actually need anything!!

Why not start a No Spend Day Challenge (NSD) to go along with the GC. Maybe start with 1 day a week and then 2 days a weeks and then 3 etc. Or 3 days a month and then 4 and then 5 etc.

I feel guilty that I haven't time to read through all the posts and thank everyone as this thread has been an inspiration to me.

DH wages have always been paid weekly up until 3 years ago when he changed jobs and he now gets paid monthly. It was really difficult to get used to the change after over 30 years so I just carried on as though he got paid weekly. I have now realised it is much easier to have a monthly shopping budget as I can bulk buy plus stock up on any offers.
I have started taking my glasses with me as well so I can read what date the offers start and finish, I have lost count of the number of times I have missed out because I couldn't see.

My eldest GD had always told me I am not like other Nanna's and I am really cool but yesterday she said I am turning into an old Nanna because I am now always baking cakes and biscuits.
I made the hob nobs yesterday, my DH who hates anything remotely like flapjack loves them.

I adapted a recipie I found on the back of a tin of Heinz tomato soup yesterday, using the left overs from my bacon joint instead of smoked bacon and I didn't put any cream in it, it was delicious and I will definately make it again.
Don't worry about baking - I expect GD loves your bakes.

my OH is the same so i use other clues such as the time he takes to clear the plate and whether he mops it clean with bread. if he leaves anything on the plate i am mortified and i know that dish is a failure (usually when i've put too much veg in) He drives me nuts sometimes when he covers everything in vinegar or ketchup and i feel quite frustrated if i think he cant taste my cooking underneath all that 'junk'
Mr F never leaves anything on his plate! Sometimes I say to him - when he is scrapping up every little bit - leave some glaze on that plate!

Forgot to say - Mr F doesn't have the option of bread to mop his plate - he was 23 stone when we met and now is 13 stone 11lbs - I am slowly starving the man! :rotfl:

we did a medium shop in ald* yesterday - that was an experience:D I have been to ald* for a few things but never a proper shop - good job I knew I had to be quick packing! we spent £27.89 in there. then we went to lid* and spent £2.55. so a spend of £30.44.

I can keep track of OH's spending when I am with him but when he goes shopping on his own... although he gets the GC he doesn't get the keeping track of it all. it's going to be a long month:rotfl:

    NSD today:j

I have been baking today - previously I would have just bought biscuits/cakes so I am proud of myself!
