January 2012 Grocery Challenge

Hi Everybody
I know I am a little late but could I please join this month. I usually do not have a budget for food just spend and spend. However, I decided to stop spending and try and pay as much of the mortgage as I can this year.
Up to now I have spend £44.56. I am going to put a budget of £200 for this month for two adults and two kids and one very small dog.
I dont think this month is going to be a problem as I cannot get another thing in my freezer and the kitchen cupboards have extended into the garage.
Any tips would be great for the forethcoming months.
Take care

NSD today but yesterday needed a few things. Needed Leeks to make veg soup but had all the other ingrediants for this so that. Bread and Milk as well as a few wee other bits but only spent £4.71.
Only got 11 days left and I still have a few meals in the freezer left and cupboards are still fairly well stocked.
Should be a NSD tomorrow and hopefully Wed. Thursday may need a few bits but I am really pleased how well we are doing.
OH has been getting onto the swing of things making sure we use up odd bits in the fridge and staying away from the shops:)Feb 2012 Grocery Challenge £200/£4.00

Popped to Mr T - only bought what was on my list - dog food (on offer), plenty (on offer) and ragu (on offer) feeling very virtous, then as I came out got my heel stuck in one of the grates and lost the end!!!! - that will more than take care of the savings I made - why does it sometimes go like that??I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0

I spent £35.34 today in a combination of MrA and Aldi, bringing me to a total of £44.22 for the month so far out of £100. I won't be going near a supermarket until Sunday now when I go back to work, so I am on track (my month ends on 27th Jan).
I stocked up on cup a soups for my work day lunches, and have enough to last for about 2 months, but they were only 50p a box of 4. I also got a 80 wash lenor for £3 instead of £6.49 so that was a big save, and I don't need it yet so it will last me into the summer! Whoopsied bisto down to 40p, always handy, and bacon that I have already split into bags and frozen. I have a good stock of cereal bars too as they were on offer as well, so they should last a good few weeks too.0 -

Another NSD for me :j
I had gammon for tea and used a recipe called Viking Gammon from Lynsey on MSE I'm eating out of freezer and cupboard challenge and it was very easy and tasty.
Grill gammon steaks, once cooked coat one side with honey, top with grated cheese and sliced tomato and grill or bake until the cheese has melted. Pour the juice over the top and enjoy.
We had it with a small portion of macaroni cheese, broccoli and green beans.
