Ive just logged onto Bt.com to check my call log for my up and coming bill and on the call log page it has in red writing a message from Bt about an error on my bill from between August 2006 and November 2006 for calls which i havent been charged for. This is what it says exactly :

Due to a system error, calls you made to 0844, 0845 and some 0870 numbers between 11th August and 7th November 2006 have not been billed. They will appear on your bill from the end of January 2007. We apologise for this error and hope it hasn't inconvenienced you. The issue has been resolved and only calls for the period stated are affected.

Surely they cant just expect me to pay for them now as it isnt my mistake it theres.Any ideas anyone on what i should do now.Do i phone them and ask exactly how much they have added onto the bill and decided then whether i should pay it.

I have just found this out today ... Received a letter from BT saying they wanted to adjust my DD to £285 a month

I called them and they informed me that since Jan I have made calls to the tune of £222

I looked into it further and noticed these calls were dated months ago and then saw the message in red. The helpful BT operator grudingly admitted they had cocked up with their billing!!!

Managed to negotiate my DD down to £150 (after my heart returned to a semi normal beat) but thinking of lodging a complaint anyway ... just to see if I get anywhere ...

    Tori,

No disrespect, but have you done anything to get your BT bills down?

PLEASE have a read of Martin's article on cutting the cost of your phone calls and, for a slightly more personal version, click on the 'HERE' link in my signature below.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Hi Heinz

My bills have actually come down ... drastically .... that £222 is from a period Aug - Nov where (stupidly) I was using pay and go internet connection with Virgin ... I used to regularly check my bill and because there were hardly any charges being accrued I though ... Wow, this is cheap!! :o

Obviously, charges were being accrued but weren't showing due to a BT billing problem .. The £150 I have to pay monthly, is only short term to cover the £222 plus my normal billing for the next couple of months ...

From Nov, I've been on a broadband package which covers all my internet charges ... and I hardly make any telephone calls .. usually around £15 a quarter!

    What's the difference?

Heinz, you're obviously generally very helpful to people, judging from the huge number of times you've been thanked. So it's a shame your attitude in this thread is so antagonistic and hard.

I'm one of many BT customers who find myself with a heavier bill this month than expected, because I hadn't logged on to find BTs message to me, and wasn't expecting to pay a whole quarter of internet charges in one month - this hasn't been referred to at all on my paper bills. My monthly bills have not differed from the norm lately, so I had assumed that internet charges were being paid as used, as always.

The difference between this and your gas, seeing as you ask, is that you probably weren't expecting to pay for November's gas on December's monthly bill.

Seems a shame for you to join the thread, only to add sarcasm at people who are genuinely dismayed by the impact of BT Wholesale's error on their outgoings this month...

Are you sure that that comment doesn't confuse this site's ethos (money saving) with a desire to avoid payment?

The two are not interchangeable in my view.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

Sorry to drag this thread up again! Just have to vent some frustration ..

As you can see on my previous post above I agreed with BT to pay £150 pm (short term) to clear an existing bill plus my next bill due to their late billing error. I also gave them new bank account details as I have changed banks.

As it is, on the 1st March they proceeded to debit the £285 pounds anyway from my old account - luckily for me, the direct debit had been cancelled at the bank end so I didnt actually incur any bank charges.

At this time I logged on to my BT account on the internet and set up a fresh direct debit with my new bank accounts for the agreed amount! I received the letter today confirming my DD instruction and checked my online banking and it was set up. No problem I thought - sorted.

Anyway, about 1 hrs ago I received an email from BT telling me my new bill was ready to view (I thought this was strange as it wasn't due for another month). So I logged on to my account and noticed that my DD was now cancelled

I phoned BT and explained what had happened to a very understanding man who says 'I can understand why you ae not happy, let me see what I can do' - so I get placed on hold for 10 minutes ... the phone then connects and the line gets cut off!!!

So I phone back and have to explain what has happened to somebody else who basically says 'Sorry there is nothing I can do, I'll pass you through to credit management" !!

Still with me ... Anyway, I get transferred to Credit Management to a very helpful young lady and ask her if the person I was just speaking to explained my problem! 'No', she says .. 'She just passed you straight through" ..

So I explain what has happened for the 3rd time in about 20 minutes and finally come to an arrangement and my DD is set back up ...

Anway, I just checked online and my DD is now set up ... but for £2017 per month!!!!!

I think I'll phone back tomorrow to sort that one out ... can't face another phone call tonight!! ;)

You may need the below e-mail address in the near future. It's BT's CEO - who does read his own e-mails, who does MAKE THINGS HAPPEN - and quickly too!
