See you've already started a thread on the old style forum - the ladies (and gents) on there are truly amazing with how they stretch food to last. So rather than buying chicken pieces, buy the whole chicken and make 3-4 meals out of (freezer will be your friend to avoid eating chicken for 4 days running!). When making anything with mince, pad it out with loads of veg, and even grated carrot and oats. Cut the sausages up and make into a casserole so you're using one per person rather than 2 or 3.
Look at the meal planning threads so you ensure that very little is wasted. Consider a vegetarian meal once or twice a week which will also mean your meat box lasts longer. Fish? Pasta? Omlettes?
This website was put together by a regular on the old style forum, where you can feed a family of 4 for £100 a month (including 5 portions of fruit and veg a day). It's great for some ideas that you can adapt to suit you.

I spend about £100 to £130 a month for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. That also includes cleaning stuff and food for 2 rats, 1 hamster, 1 gerbil and a tortoise.0

Hi,
Very inspirational. I have just done my budget starting 1st Jan but have allowed £300 per month for 3 of us inc toiletries and cleaning materials, plus extra for dog food/bisuits for largish dog. I'm hoping to come in at less although we do eat loads of fresh fruit/salad & veg every week. I shop at Lidl, and have done for 16yrs so know what we like and what is good value in there. Buying their weekend specials in bulk saves us money. I grow a lot of stuff in our garden and shared allotment which helps in the summer & autumn, not so much in it at this time of year. We mostly cook from scratch but I need to use my slow cooker and batch cook more. I bought a bigger freezer at the start of December so need to use it wisely. Altogether looking forward to the challenge.Nothing is truly lost until your mum can't find it!0 -

Just looked at the small meatbox on Riverford as I have never heard of them. I think theres quite a lot of meat there. It would certainly last 3 of us a month. We have started using meat to flavour food instead of eating slabs of it.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0

Save money? I could go to the upmarket local butcher and get this half lamb pack for £65...you dont get as much as you may think lol which one would you get ...they may even save you guys money buying with them
Consisting of: Whole leg of lamb, Mini Shank, Lamb Carvery (can be glazed with mint & rosemary glaze), Stuffed Breast of Lamb, Selection of loin chops, Rack of Lamb, Lamb en-croute (neck fillet brushed with mint & rosemary glaze encased in puff pastry), Boneless Leg Chops and Lamb Kidney.
Or from Riverford the same half lamb box costs £75 and is this- 2 x half legs 2 kg
- 2 x half shoulders (1 x boneless) 2 kg
- lamb chops 450g
- steaks 450g
- mince 450g

I know which one I would prefer.:footie:

My food (for 4 of us, supermarket shop) works out at around £160/wk, with 2 nights out each week extra.
I’ve got personal budget planners, as part of the company commitment to our staff, and some have been able to feed a family of 4 on £50/week, with 2 school-age children. This is around 60p per meal.
I’d be amazed if anyone could get below this, however it’s certainly possible!💙💛 💔0
