where do you shop? our week inc meat / veg /fruit /toiletries /dog food

Tesco, mine includes that too, and nappies baby wipes.

Health wise what does the fact its Value have to do with it  If you buy junk food with a good brand name its just as bad as value. Same with veg, potatoes etc there just as good health wise as a brand name.

Do you count the dog food in the £40 a week? I just shop at Morrisons although the last 2 major shops have been at Ocado (with a £20 voucher) and Sainsburys (with a £50 voucher). The cat food I count seperately in the weekly budget.

    Grocery Challenge

Here's a link to the Old Style Board http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33

The Grocery Challenge is run monthly and is always a "sticky" at the top. December's is still there - pop in and say "hi" - a new one will be on the go in a couple of days for January.

People run their budgets for different periods - some run from payday to payday (eg 15th to 15th) and others by calender month ... up to you to decide what works best for you.

    Pets

Re pet food - I've reduced my costs massively in the past few months by bulk buying / buying online when the offers are on.

I've reduced the cats from £8.50/month/cat down to £3.50/month/cat - for the same high quality food & the dog (who I sadly recently lost), I'd managed to reduce from £23/15kg bag to £36 for 2 x 15kg bags (he was wheat intolerant so I was limited to what he could have - but this was a very good quality hypoallergenic, wheat & gluton free food).

    Toiletries / food

See if you've got a Home Bar*gains store near you - great for toiletries (18 x very good quality quilted loo rolls for £3.99, 6 x kitchen rolls for £1.99 etc) and also food items. I've been getting 1kg Tilda rice for 99p - which is over £4 in the supermarkets! They've also got pet products & their cat litter is great quality & cheap!:)

The nearest one to me is a fair distance so I go every couple of months & stock up.

Others to try are Al*di & Li*dl - my advice - buy one of something & try it & if you like it, buy more the next time ... you may not like everything but most things are just the same as the "big 4" sm.

Try using frozen veg - a lot cheaper than fresh & really reduces the wastage. If you have to get fresh - look at the "whoopsies" and buy a load, chop & freeze for future use. HTH
    Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
    2016 Sell: £125/£250
    £1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000
    Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!

Riverford is nice...Organic food. Fresh from farmer. It's sold at a premium if you are willing to pay for it then then that's your choice but for the £69.95 large meatbox (6.8kg) to feed a family for 2 weeks I could get the same meat but not organic and not branded by Riverford for about £15.

If you are spending £40 pppw what were you spending before.

How much do you spend on Wagg food? Buy in it big 15kg bags and you will save a lot. Sometimes they do buy one get one half price bringing the price down even more to about 50 pence per kg.

Why don't you just buy the same meat for much less than half the price elsewhere?
