would not know how to make it stretch that far ! how do i make the small meat box last 2 week0
-
But there is only 2 of you.....A large meat box of 6.8kg of meat should last you well over a month. I could even stretch it longer than that if needed. You only "need" a piece of meat the size of a pack of playing cards about 80 grams per person per day.
Would agree with this ...... sorry but that's a lot of meat to go through fortnightly.
Do you have meat every main meal?
Try doing some veg ones - pasta & sauces - rice & "something" etc.
Do you use the bones for making stock?
You can make a lovely Risotto with the stock from the bones of a chicken, bits of meat picked from the carcas, some leeks, mushrooms & frozen peas - which is really a "free meal" as it's from leftovers/stuff in the cupboards.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Put together a list of what's in it and post it on here - or on the Grocery Challenge thread (honestly, it's amazing what you can do with leftovers).:)
I can get at least 8 main meals & 4 lunches from a "normal" sized chicken - something along the lines of:
Roast chicken x 2 meals (the breasts)
Chicken curry x 4 meals (leg meat & stock)
Risotto x 2 meals (using the picked bits & stock)
Soup x 4 lunches (as above)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

You would divide the meat up into portions.would not know how to make it stretch that far ! how do i make the small meat box last 2 week- lamb joint 650g
- pork + herb sausages x 6 450g
- beef frying steak 200g
- pork chops x 2 500g
- chicken legs x 2 600g
- beef mince 450g
- whole chicken 1.8kg
1 sausage each on a Monday
1/2 pork chop each on a Tuesday
1/2 chicken leg each on a Wednesday
Use 1/3rd the beef mince on a Thursday
Roast the chook on a Friday and eat half chicken breast each
A wing each on the Saturday
The other half chicken breast on Sunday
A half chicken leg each on the Monday
1/3rd beef mince on Tuesday
1 sausage each on Wednesday
the other half chicken leg on Thursday
1/2 the frying steak on Friday
the last 1/3rd beef mince on Saturday
Roast the lamb joint on Sunday and divide it into \at least 6 portions to have on Monday and Tuesday as well possibly in a curry or something similar
Finish the frying steak off on Wednesday
Finish the other pork chop off on Thursday
Finish the other chicken leg off on Friday
Over the time have two days off meat. That is still about 110 grams per person per day for 3 weeks. I would stretch it even more than that. That's just a quick analysis.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

total weight 4.65kg- whole chicken 1.8kg - 8 main meals & 4 lunches
- 2 600gbeef mince 450g - at least 16 main meals ..... 600g would make at least 8 portions of Spag Bol / other pasta sauce. You could use 1/2 the other 600g one for a 4 portioned lasagne & the remaining lot for mince x 4 portions
- 2 500gchicken legs - chicken curry, chicken risotto etc. At least 4 portions each = 8 portions. Or use to make soup for lunches - lots of portions!:)
- 6 450gbeef frying steak - I can make a 6 portioned beef stew from 1 x 450g pack .... so that's 36 portions.
- 650gpork + herb sausages - again, sausage casserole, I'd say at 6 to 8 portions
- 200gpork chops - at least 2 meals
So far (I've been pretty conservative in my estimates) .... 76 to 78 main meals, several lunches and there's still a lot left (have no idea what to do with lamb as can't afford to eat it) - which would least over a month, let alone a fortnight!:)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
