FlatEric - your money has been well spent. I really like the sidecar santa. Look forward to seeing the progress.

Well I did it. I finished not only the one bag, I made a rucksack as well and - drum roll please - I've finished the tiger. So here it is

tiger finished by Ailsb1, on Flickr

Three generations of work in one piece. My Mum did the tigers right ear, top right of his head and his right eye (as you look at it), my Son did his left eye and I finished the rest. I have to say I have shed many tears completing it but I'm pleased with the finished result.

I love your Tiger. A lot of designs I've seen just don't seem right but yours looks fab and its a really nice touch that you have shared the stitching.

Thank you for your comments about my recent cross stitch purchases. I have to say I felt almost sick when I bought them because it seemed a lot to pay for two kits especially when I have so much to do already but sometimes, you just get that feeling that they are a "must stitch" I did get them both at a good price and they are lovely. I just need to sit down and look at them properly. I have no idea where to even start with them but while shopping in a discount store today, I picked up two lock and lock boxes so at least I can ensure the threads are kept safe and clean. :rotfl:

    Really?

My framer has never said that - and I've taken him some monster pieces in the past. I think in that position, I'd be looking for a different framer - but I know that once you've found one that gives good results you stick to them - and he must have done some good work for you in the past. The problem is that I never want to *risk* taking a good piece of work to a new framer and perhaps having it badly framed. Hmmm.

I pay about £50 for even the big pieces (Tenby was £58 as I recall but was a non standard frame size - long and thin) and that includes lacing. I agree with you how difficult it is to do. I tried it once and decided never again :o

I was having lunch in a framing shop/cafe last week and it sounds like there is lots of money to be made. Certainly someone whose picture had come loose from its mount (so not cross stitch) was charged £25 to reaffix etc.
I should be at the butchers now buying the joint for Sunday lunch now but instead am waiting for the RAC to arrive as when I got the car out of the garage one of the front tyres was completely flat

So there's not much I can do about that so am trying to chill and catch up on some of your posts while hoping the tyre is repairable as it was new in November so has lots of tread on it.

    Anyway onto more pleasant subjects:

mrsnewcook In general the advice seems to be to check with your airline about what they will allow on the flight. Needles seem to be ok but scissors and even in some cases thread cutters can be refused. If you cut lenghts of thread in advance you can leave the ends at the back of the work until you get to your destination and trim them then.

FE Love the stocking designs - there is a lot of work in them - which Christmas are they for ? I love stitching and making stockings and they seem to be really appreciated as gifts that are kept for years. Haven't managed to do one for myself yet

Ruthhoney thanks for the link to cross stitch corner = great prices with free postage plus a current offer of another 7.5% off if you buy 2 kits. I am very tempted by this in the special offers section and this in the normal price kits

RAC have just called to say will be arriving in next few minutes

Thanks for your comments about flying/cross stitch. It irritates me that they are so pedantic over things like the clover thread cutter. I have no immediate trips abroad but when I do, I will look into much more closely.

And thanks for your comments about the cross stitch stockings. I doubt for this Christmas but you never know. Certainly not both of them. I need to get my head round what I'm meant to be doing with them. The chart is confusing enough!

Incidentally does anyone know what dimensions threads actually are i.e. are they unique to dimensions and do they have a conversion charge to dmc ? or are they madeira threads or something ??? They seem to have weird codes.

Cross Stitch Corner was where I ordered my two stockings kits from. Amazing service and fab prices. Would definitely use them again :T

Reminds me of the time I asked my OH to take me to the chemist for I think a horrid sore throat I had. Except the car wouldn't start.... phone call to the RAC ensued. don't remember how long we were waiting but wasn't hours and wasn't too much of an inconvenience as we could relax inside.

RAC man turned up. 2 mins later, he has car started while my OH stands round looking rather bemused and red faced. Problem, my OH had flooded the engine. Our drive is on a slope and he had moved the car from the bottom of the drive, 2 metres up to the top of the drive. This small exercise flooded the engine but it was easy to fix.

We have had a lovely day today. Been out in the sun and sat by the beach for a good couple of hours watching the world go by. Was almost tempted to dip my toes in the water but resisted....

No cross stitch managed however but hope to get some done tomorrow while OH goes off to the cricket. :j

oh and to make you laugh. Had pizza for tea (those make your own from A$da) I cut the pizza into quarters and cooked them. First piece out of oven didn't make it to the table - OH dropped it all over the chair/floor.... (slid off plate) made right old mess :rotfl:

*Louise*, there is a guide here to framing cross stitch, i've never used pins but have laced a few pieces myself, they are never 100% perfect, but good enough for me.

AlisB, love the tiger, well done on completing it.

doh! stupid chicky!!! Just bought these needles but you can tell i was asleep as I gotsize 28 not size 24. consequently they keep falling out of 14ct aida!!

cost me £2 + 55p postage so if you use evenweave or something with tiny holes and can make use of them for £1.50 (includes postage) let me know and I can pop em in the post. rather then put em back on ebay.
(I know I could send em back but it's not worth the faff and cost of recorded postage)

Chicky i haven't seen a response to this post but I have been skim reading to catch up so may have missed it I'd be happy to have these for the price you paid. If still available pm me with your paypal addy. or if you prefer pm my pp addy to you and you can send me a request for payment.

Delighted you managed to get the sparkly aida - I'm sure you will love the effect

What's that burny ball of fire in the sky....? Isn't it lovely to see it :)

Not done anything vaguely stitchy for about 2 months - but today, I must sort out Old McDonald. Some of you may remember it was ruined when i washed out the blue pen - it is on blue fabric, and the pen has taken the dye out of the material... It's now blue fabric covered with a chequer-board of white lines.

So I have found some blue thread and I am going to "colour in" the background. I am meeting the recipient for coffee tomorrow, so I have to do it and that's it. I will add a photo later.

    Have a lovely sunny Sunday :) x

I went googling for courses on framing as i would love to learn how to do it properly, i found this Fabric Framing Course but its in High Wycombe, it costs quite a bit but you get to take one of your own piece and frame it so not too bad. Theres also another course in Trowbridge clicky Maybe useful for someone in those areas, i'm almost 300 miles away :(

I'm still waiting for my te%co shop. I knew it was wishful thinking that it would arrive between 10 and 11am (the first hour of my slot) so that I could get on with cooking dinner or go out as my mood dictated. According to the last text from them, its due now anytime up until 1pm. Sadly, I have the delivery $aver so can't even ask for the delivery charge back. Hmmm

OH has gone off to the cricket and I haven't dug the cross stitch out yet.... I don't feel in the mood yet. I woke up early not able to sleep so feel tired now and feel the sofa and a snooze is calling me....

    Bora Da!

    Hi girls

I am home. Had a lovely holiday - nice being away from it all and forgetting about all my worries for a wee while but now I am home with a bump (some job hubby applied for got a refusal letter - guess we are lucky he got that).

Done some stitching on one of the two bears I am doing for work. Hubby doesn't want me getting uptight at doing them - don't think he understands why I am doing them as I am not close to the women but I feel like doing something nice. Make peace with the world - oh I don't know.

Hope all are well - thought I would say hi!

Oh - you can get magic guide evenweave 25hpi. I got a wee sample in the post from Donna at Cross Stitch Heaven

    http://www.cross-stitch-heaven.co.uk/white-25ct-magic-guide-evenweave-4470-p.asp

She does a wee sample pack for £1.20

    This is what it includes:

4 pieces of fabric including - 22ct Aida, 25ct Lugana Evenweave, 25ct Magic Guide Evenweave, 25ct Dublin Linen. SAMPLE PIECES ARE FREE - (You just pay the p&p) If you want to try a 28ct or 32ct or indeed any of our aida's just leave a note with your order. PLEASE ONLY ADD 1 SAMPLE PACK PER ADDRESS.

Hope that helps - she seems quite reasonable for prices for other items too.

    Keep well, catch up soon.

    sweetcarer ;)

PS my first boyfriends brother was in a cricket team and we used to go to the matches - never enjoyed it so I took my walkman (how old am I) and my stitching and had a great time!

Donna is great, and I love the fact that you can order a load of stuff and pay it off in insallments (I placed a large order with her a couple of night ago, just got to pay it all off now lol).

So, my cousin is getting married next year, and I wanted to stitch him and his wife to be, a small sampler, something that was a bit more funky and modern, so I was thinking this one?
What do yous think? Not too plain is it? Or any other suggestions? I don't want anything that is any bigger than that really as I'm not sure if they would want anything too big. Thanks in advance!

Also, I won some more auctions on eBay, been a bit eBay happy this weekend lol, so apart from the mini penguin, Tigger and the AOY Poppy Fields one that I won a couple of days ago, I have since won 3 WOXS mags complete with the free cover gift, Winnie the Pooh Watercolours project book and kit, 3D Flower Shop kit, Lickle Ted kit, and 4 Flower Fairies Kits (Poppy, Lavender, Heliotrope and Willow). So on a roll at the moment. Lots of lovely stash for next year :T
