tesco have a Britax Hi-liner for £40. We bought one last year and like it. Daughter number two is ready to move into one now, just waiting on a tesco direct code.

That scores well in the Which crash test report but I still would recommend a seat with a 5 point harness like the Britax Evolva 123 /123 Ultra for any kid under the age of 4 or 5 . As I said before PM if you want a copy of the latest Which report but can your PM include your email address please .

    Thanks
Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
    Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

thanks for that , our baby is only seven months and so is in a infant car seat.
I never knew booster seats gave such little protection I will remember that vid every time we change car seat.
  • Gosh that video really makes you think..... and to think that some parents want to save a few pounds on a car seat when it is one of the most important purchases that you might make for your baby/child.
It is also worth saying that the car seat should be checked frequently for a secure fit.

Very moving video, I have recently bought my 3 year old a new seat, it is the Fisher Price one, complete with a 5 point harness. I am so glad that I spent the extra to ensure he had the harness. Must admit though that I wanted the harnessed one because he is such a wriggle bum and I couldn't trust him to stay in a high backed booster. Watching that video has reinforced that I made the correct decision - not sure what the Which? reports would say about this seat though, didn't think to check them first, but I did have it professionally fitted into my car. Just need to find something now that will stop him from unbuckling the seatbelt (adult) if we are stationary for a while i.e. parked at the shop. Any ideas please.
  • There always seems to be the big rush to turn your baby forward facing @ 9 months/20lb mark . It is a well proven fact that babies are so much better off if they are kept rear facing for as long as possible . People often say their baby has outgrown their seat as they feet are dangling over the bottom , this means nothing at all . The way to tell if they are too big for the baby seat is when the top of their heads comes in line with the top of the seat . A seat that is from birth to 4 years , such as the Britax First Class , means they can be kept rear facing and therefore safer for longer .

Also someone said about getting the seat fitted expertly , I agree with this comment to a certain extent but know of many "horror" stories where stores such as H@lfords and M*thercare have fitted seats and the seats have had buckle crunch or way too much movement in them . Check them yourself as well as most seats now days are very easy to fit and come with picture by picture instructions too .

Fisher price seats are made by Britax so look at the way the Britax ones score and this will give you an idea of how good they are .

This is what you need to stop him undoing the belt , http://www.kiddicare.com/invt/xdlsunmty?D=seat+belt&Ntt=seat+belt&Ntk=primary&y=0&N=0&x=0

thanks for this link, will have a proper look at this, i remember years ago you could get a piece of plastic to put over the buckle area so that they couldn't press the release button but have not seen these for ages.

Natalie1974 - i would be interested if you could pm me the report on the car seats for me to look at as I am no longer a member of which. I have sent you a pm msg (i think - 1st time i've done that), thanks for the info.
  • I've watched the video and now have tears streaming down my face.

Dont economise on your childs safety - get the best and safest car seat you can. I have a two year old son and was about to buy a booster seat to keep in the car just in case I had to transport an older child - its now off my shopping list permanently. When my son is old enough to transfer into a bigger seat it wont be a booster seat.

    RIP Kyle.
