Not a fair question really. It's a people carrier I use for work as well.
The amount of plaster, cement, I clean out, and screws and stuff I lose in the back, about once a week.

So were you just trying to be smart (and failing) or did you have a genuine point to make in asking me the original question?

Ha ha. I had that as well, I forgot about that. The main difference then is it wasn't usually terminal and could be repaired with a bit of tape or string. I drove it back from Scotland with a bit of string fed through the bulkead to work the throttle by hand and a rubber band to close the throttle again.

Probably a bit dangerous on reflection!

I had a V8 SD1 that I did the same on, out of the side of the bonnet, and in through the side window, when the accelerator broke.
I think we used to drive differently.
Too safety conscious now, or too scared of being caught.
  • landrover freelander 02 reg, petrol with 70,000 miles on the clock, complete waste of money from the day we bought it!
Within 4 weeks of buying it and taking out an all components warranty the head gasket went on the motorway on a busy saturday afternoon visiting my dad in glasgow, had to be towed back to newcastle, one thing after another went on the car and each time it conveniently wasn't covered under the "all components" warranty!
I loved this car before we bought it but i wouldn't have one given now!

Ok, no, no matter what car I had, to have driven round with an inch of water under the carpet would normally be pretty unmissable.
    Let alone for two years.
Even in a car that I would normally only clean the floorwells out for holidays, it would be pretty hard to miss the damp, and the smell of the carpets being wet.

So yes, I reckon I'd spot it.

Carpets weren't wet on top I already told you that. It didn't smell at all of anything otherwise I would've investigated it.

None of my passengers ever noticed anything amiss. Main dealer will have serviced it at least twice during that time and they never mentioned it either.

As I said do you actually have a point to make about my car rather than a hypothetical situation involving you?

So it had a fault you couldn't see, couldn't smell, couldn't feel, and had no effect on you or your passengers, and it was the worst car you had, so bad it you off buying Vauxhalls for life?

You got hung up asking what I would do, if you don't want to know, don't ask.

On the contrary, you tried to be clever at my expense and failed miserably.

If you hadn't already admitted to being a manual worker I would've thought you worked for Vauxhall!

Can you quote the part where I asked you what you would do? Since I can't find it.

I did ask how often you stripped all of the carpets and foam out of your car footwell back to the bare metal and you very surprisingly claim to do it every week.

My original question was, of course, rhetorical. But you won't have realised that. ;)

Since we're guessing, you spend a lot of time sitting down, only looking forward, blinkered view of everything else around you?
Very touchy if it's pointed out you haven't looked in the back of your car for two years.

    Make that very very touchy.
